Farewell Lou Reed

Lou Reed, iconic singer, guitarist and founder of the Velvet Underground, died yesterday at the age of 71. Reed is a legend and pioneer in the rock world. His influence can be felt across many of the bands and songs we love, even today.

Be sure to read Lou's New York Times obituary.

A musical hero to many. Im not too fond of the velvet underground, but Lou Reed definitely was an influence in the rock world and music in general. Its always sad to see a life lost, RIP. Much respect.

Whatever one may think of Lou Reed, and I've heard the stories from lots of New Yorkers who were there along the way that he could be quite the mean bastard, he was a HUGE influence on Rock & Roll and Glam Rock in particular. God Bless and God Speed.

p.s. "Walk On The Wildside" is an absolute Rock & Roll Masterpiece. "Sweet Jane" is a classic, Velvet Underground's albums also classic. "Lulu", his ill conceived collaboration with Metallica, was, sadly, a missed opportunity.

Lou Reed was a brilliant songwriter, iconic, even. "Sweet Jane", "Baby Sister" , his calling card tune "Walk On The Wild Side" & so many others... as a fixture in the early 70's New York Scene, Lou is a legend.

Still one of my favorite renditions of one of his songs, isn't even his own version, but the cover by "my girls", the Runaways doing Lou's brilliant composition, "Rock n' Roll".

R.I.P. Lou !

Totally, Ace! Der, I never realized The Runaways' "Rock And Roll" is Lou's. Frickin' cool. Rock On Forever, Lou!

While I was no fan of Lou Reed, it is nice to see the class exhibited here by my fellow BBG peeps. Sad to say, however, that many of Lou's fanatic fans would probably not react in the same classy manner when, say, a Jani Lane or Jeff Hanneman passes away. Just sayin'.

I was reading more on Lou Reed... He largely attributed his breakthrough as a solo artist to working with Mick Ronson who produced (with David Bowie), played guitar and did all the string arrangements on "Transformer", Reed's sophomore effort containing the hit "Walk On The Wild Side".
