Queen + Adam Lambert Play The iHeartRadio Festival

The iHeartRadio festival was over the weekend in Las Vegas. I don't really listen to a lot of pop music so not many of the acts interested me... but I would have loved to see Queen + Adam Lambert live! I'm a big fan of Queen and everyone knows I love Adam, so it's a win-win for me!

Y'know, when Queen did some one-off gig around 1993 w/ George Micheal standing in for Freddie, ( There really is NO "replacing" Mr. Mercury, only lesser substitutes standing in ) I thought that might be a way for Queen to continue.

Evidently, that didn't pan out. Adam is just an "OK" singer... he's young, flamboyantly gay, (which is really the dynamic needed here) and a capable singer. He just lacks the flair & finesse' of Freddie's graceful & dramatic ballet moves & smooth tenor voice. Adam can hit the notes, but he lacks Fred's operatic training .

It's almost like watching a half drunk karaoke performance.

It will never be as good as the original, but it's just "OK"... Suitable for the karaoke bar, but obviously way out it' depth on the stadium stages of the world.

That being said, I'd rather see Queen continue to perform, even with such an obviously lesser vocalist, that to cease performing completely.

R.I.P. Freddie Mercury. I'm thrilled to have lived in a time that I saw "the real thing" numerous times.

P.S. Roger Taylor needs to sing more... He has a phenomenal voice.

Just watch the Freddie Mercury Tribute (AIDS Awareness) Concert from 1992. That's how a "remade" or "remake" Queen should be done. Freddie Mercury is legendary and was honored by legends.

Sorry, Adam isn't a "rocker". This is karoke (as Ace states) at its finest for women and gay men who like their songs with no substance. And that's not a slight against all women and gay men.

Well spoken, GnR.

*Also, For those interested, Remember the topic a few weeks ago about THE BABYS playing the Roxy ? If you go back to that post, I posted a streaming link to one of my videos from the show. A really awesome acoustic version of "WRONG OR RIGHT".

Not keen on Adam - Queen need someone better to stand in for these kind of gigs.

NO ONE will ever be able to replace, recreate, or due Freddie's musical genius justice. That said I still believe Queen sounded great in this performance with Adam.
