Rock on the Range 2014 Lineup Announced
Friday, January 17, 2014 at 12:01AM
Rock on the Range is set for May 16, 17 and 18 at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
Guns n' Roses, Avenged Sevenfold and Kid Rock are the headliners. Other decent acts include Five Finger Death Punch, Slayer, Motorhead and Black Label Society.
To be honest, I'm underwhelmed with this lineup. I guess I was hoping for a bigger headliner, or less filler at the bottom maybe. What do you think?
You can buy tickets starting January 24.

I bet he will have to now that he is an official (but not in the lyric or riff writing sense) member of Slayer.
If Slayer continues past this next album (a bit iffy given Araya these days), I hope they bring him into the song-building process.
Slayer are an overrated fashion statement (yeahhh Slayyerrrrr dude), selling more tshirts than music.
Ticket sales for their last tour with Gojira were dismal because they are down to 1/2 the original band and have over saturated the touring market.
You can have the rest of the SH*T!
SLAYER S*CKS,
It is laughable their tripe is even classified as music!
I actually saw Slayer opening for The Ramones (Hahaha!!! What a TOTALLY off-the-wall pairing!) at ROSELAND right when "Rein In Blood" came out.
The place was packed. Honestly, I just don't get what everyone sees in these clowns. You would get the same overall effect of the noise they "play" by runnin' a chainsaw and a drill while ridin' a jackhammer with 2 Dobermans barkin' at you.
Cool logo, though.
But this is an odd moment for me because I agree with bkallday about Slayer. Actually, it isn't that odd. I just think bk (I can call you "bk," can't I?) and I got off to a rough start . . . sorta' like I did with Metalboy! We both seem to like similar bands even if our levels of interest might differ. After the nonsense that happened on this site a week or so ago, I'd like to try to start anew.
That said, I would replace _SITA_ and _SOH_ with _Show No Mercy_, Hell Awaits_, or even the EP _Haunting the Chapel_ in terms of their most solid work. Like a lot of bands, they settled into their style after those 80s albums, with more inconsistent results.
But even their work post-Lombardo (let me count the times that man has pitched a fit, like geniuses do, and left with his drum shorts in a wad) has some stellar moments. And, like I noted earlier, the Holt and (again) Bostaph era holds promise if Araya maintains interest and Holt is given some authority after the new record is released.
Hanneman's loss is a big bummer for any fan of the sub-genre or any fan of Slayer. But he had been fading even before the spider bite. And those things that caused him to fade had been eating at him a lot longer than the spider bite. Tragic and all too common. That said, King isn't the evil midget that people make him out to be. He is a persona and a diva, granted. But he is integral to the band's sound and seems to have kept a steady eye on the business end of the music business.
Slayer ranks up there with Testament and Exodus (early years) in terms of influence and impact. They knew, like early Venom knew, that speed and a taste for the dark stuff sells. But, unlike Venom, they also had a higher measure of craft and lyricism behind their music. They also created an atmosphere that a lot of other bands attempt to capture.
With all due respect, Mike, the T-Shirts to Albums comparison is unfair and untrue (or, at least, unprovable). And the fact that they are down to two original members is one part fate and one part (partially) business.
No one has to like them. But Slayer have carved out a crucial spot in metal's history.
That said, Slayer still f*ckin' S*CKS!!!
p.s. All the more reason to commend you on your comments! Anyone who can write such great things about such a comedy act as Slayer should be writing for another -- Chris Christie!
Anthacks S*CKS!
