Possible Motley Crue Tour Ad Leaks

Eddie Trunk tweeted out the above ad the other day (he has since deleted that tweet). The validity of the ad can't be confirmed, but if this really is the Motley Crue farewell ad mat, we know two things: one, that Dodge is sponsoring the tour and two, Alice Cooper is the opening act. Alice makes a ton of sense and would be a huge boon to the tour. We all know the guys in Motley cite Alice as a major influence. Having him along for the ride would be huge. Now I'm even more excited for this tour! We'll know if Alice is on board January 28th when Motley make their official farewell tour announcement.

Also, if Dodge really is the tour sponsor, I suspect we'll hear some classic Crue in a Dodge ad during the Super Bowl.

There is a Ron Burgundy joke to be made about all of this. But I am not going to make it.

Glad to see they went with some less-recent photos (though the top one of Mars looks fairly recent). Conjures up the glory days with the _Girls, Girls, Girls_ motos and the retro pin-up models.

Have to agree with Allyson as well. Cooper would make quite the opener. He still has it in terms of a stage show and sing/talks within his range.

They'll reunite when Vinny spends all is money of Italian sandwiches and losing business ventures, Tommy can't make money as a rapper/dj clown, Sixx's side project sells 238 cds total and Mick,,well Mick is Mick, the sole normal, grounded one so If his health holds out..miss the OLD Motley that ROCKED!

Pretty much what Jimbo said. Probably one of my top 3 all time favorite bands, but it's been nothing but a cash grab for 3 of them (thanks for being the real thing Mick!!) since about 1994.Especially Tommy, "Mr. Techno". (Dude you're eligible for AARP but wanna be "that guy" hanging around with teens and 20 somethings, who wouldn't give you the time of day if it weren't for your past....) That said, I will probably go to this just for Alice and the fact that Motley were The Shit when it mattered and I don't know how much more Mick has left in him.

This is just perfection. I really hope it's true because Alice and Mötley both put on fantastic shows. All they need is a newer or couple of newer bands to open up the show. Picture Me Broken, Wednesday 13, Black Veil Brides, or Steel Panther anyone? They better come around here because I will not miss this show, that is if this is legitimate. Mick still blows me away when I watch him, Vince sounded great in 2011 when I saw them, and Tommy and Nikki are just entertaining and fun to watch, perfect combo. January 28th can't get here soon enough!!

I agree with ALL of the above!

And might I add...

Crüe's gonna have to be in Top Form following Cooper. If he was smart, he would bring in a total KILLER guitarist to overplay the stuff and add extra solos, etc., trying to show up Crüe to keep them on their toes.

THAT would light a fire under their as*es.

p.s. All in all, though, I think this will be a great tour to catch them. In the end, I think Crüe actually believes this is it and I have a feeling there will be much genuine respect and inspiration for Cooper emanating from the band as well as much camaraderie between them and The King of American Glam Metal!

So you mean Kane Roberts, right Metalboy!? I kid.

The thing about Cooper that impresses me is how grounded and down to Earth he is in talking about his own legacy and also the bands he inspired that came after him. He also seems to understand the business of music, the act of creating a persona, and how far you can get by being proud yet humble.

If you read some other sites, it's as if people don't know how truly deep his back catalog is and the sort of impact he has had.

Could be religion, could be sobriety (could be both), but Cooper strikes me as a perfect fit and/or counter-balance for this tour . . . and perfect role model for bands who want to be around for as long as him. At 65 (three years older than Mars!), he has had an impressive run.

Metalboy makes a very good point. If Motley just goes through the motions and mails it in most nights, Alice will literally blow them off of the stage, because that man doesn't know the meaning of mediocre when it comes to live shows. I really hope the guys kick it in the ass and go out with a bang, as it's what they themselves and the fans deserve from the most iconic band of the whole generation, (at least in my humble opinion).

Good points, all, Boyz!

Y'know, HIM, I actually thought of Kane Roberts, hahaha!!! he's actually pretty good. Orianthi's a monster but she doesn't let loose enough.

And, to your point, HIM, all I got 3 words to say to those kidz who don't know Cooper -- "Billion Dollar Babies".

And Gary, I know what ya mean about Crüe goin' through the motions. I witnessed that in 2007 when they opened for Aerosmith at Jones Beach, Long Island, NY. I think it seemed useless to Nikki to try and fight the fact they pail in comparison to the almighty Aerosmith.

Call me crazy, but what would really kick*ss is if he got Slash, hahaha!!! That would actually scare the sh*t out of Crüe, which would be good for 'em, like Gare sez.

Too bad Vinnie Vincent isn't still around. Just have him go apesh*t on guitar live the way he did in KISS to the point where they actually had to fire him for stealing the show, hahaha!!!

Alice, don't even tell Crüe your doin' it and just have one of these ringers show up and just Blaze!!!

Oh, and as far as the poster goes, Al...

Yeah, it looks real. Probably what threw you off is that it's actually beautifully designed, since most of their tour posters are kinda cheesy -- not that this isn't. They've just dialed it way down here. This may have actually been designed by Dodge's ad agency, BBDO, which would explain why it looks so good. Kudos to the designer and the players for approving it.

For the record...Aerosmith sucks. Especially live. 80 yrs old & trying to "rock"? Lol
January 19, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterbkallday
Don't kid yourself, BK. They STILL Rock LIVE, Bro. Don't believe me? Go see 'em LIVE.

Granted their albums after "Done With Mirrors" s*ck, but everything from their masterpiece "ROCKS" on back blows EVERYTHING Crüe ever did away!

And don't get me wrong, I'm a major fan AND collector of Crüe. I'm just tellin' it like it is.
January 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
I hear ya man. Everyone's due to their own opinion! I know the Crüe has many issues that shouldve already been corrected(setlist, outside writers, overtouring, etc.), but I'm glad they're all still together and are trying to go out while they're still packing em in.

Btw, I have seen Aerosmith and just wasn't impressed at all, & I'm usually not a concert nazi. Lol. Maybe they just had a rough night but they do have a great catalog, especially their stuff up to Get A Grip(toys in attic & pump were classics).
January 19, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterbkallday
Done With Mirrors is phenomenal. I never saw Aerosmith live, but from everyone I know that has seen em, they told me they sucked. Still everybody has their opinion, and I would probably go check em out. Crue and Alice will be a great tour.
January 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDj
Yeah, sorry, BK... "Pump" doesn't do it for me at all. ANYTHING up to the Corabi album AND including that album from Crüe blows "Pump" away.

They were REALLY bad*ss during Toys in the Attic & Rocks era, Tyler in his red leather suit and Perry in his black one.

At one point, they were THE loudest band touring.

Imagine hearing their "Round And Round" off "Toys" in an arena like the Philly Spectrum at the highest decibel levels achievable in 1975.

That's frickin' Heavy AND...

KICKA*S!

Well, DJ, seen 'em 6 times and all I can say is one of 'em was one of THE best shows I've ever seen in my life, another was one of THE worst I've ever seen 'em and the rest were very good!

The story is, as you probably know, it all depended on how wasted Tyler and/or Perry were on any given night back in the day.

Read the book, "Walk This Way", if you haven't yet. Amazing these guys made it back.

i just hope we get a chance to see it in the UK - would be great.

Motley Crue will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live on January 28.
January 20, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJakki Steal
Saw that Jakki, when it was posted on Sludge. Multiple songs on the outdoor stage.

It will be interesting to see how "On" they are, how they look and what songs they'll play.

Also wonder if they'll play extra songs and if the entire set will be viewable on Kimmel's website a la KISS on Letterman not too long ago when they were promoting "Monster" and tour.

Song predictions -- "Dr. Feelgood", "Sex" and "Home Sweet Home", though I wish they would open with "Livewire", then do "Ten Seconds to Love" and close with "Primal Scream" or any of their more kicka*ss "deeper cuts". But, as we well know, like most acts, they'll probably play to the hits. Still, one can hope. \m/c!!!

What makes me sad is that more than likely this is all the Jan 28 announcement is gonna be. Just another tour, just like every other tour in the past 6 years.

To be honest I've already seen them in the "prime" of their farewell tour back in 2008. Having Alice Cooper is nice N all but it made me realize it doesn't matter who they have open up for them. It's just gonna be the same tired 12/13 song setlist w/maybe one deep cut thrown in.

Unless they announce the release of a new CD (on par w/Ratt's "Infestation", which I highly doubt they will do) on Jan 28. This all really means nothing to me. All I can pray for is that they finally release vintage rare Motley stuff from the vaults on CD/DVD.
January 21, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJakki Steal
They'll do it, Jakki -- That is a major label release (Elektra) of rarities a la Zeppelin, including a DVD package.

Sixx should be writing on the road during the tour and at a certain juncture, they should take a break to record a new album with that material as their swan song and then do the second leg of their tour off of it.

THAT would be the way to go out.

Then they can wait a few years and start putting out the rarities.

I bet the press conference will be pretty cool with Cooper there. What would be REALLY cool is if they seat Alice in the middle flanked by Sixx and Lee on one side and Mars & Neil on the other.

With a twelve foot boa slithering across the table!

Here's the deal... I really don't think they'll keep going once they call it quits. I CAN see them doing solo albums but could really do without Neil's or Lee's. I could see Sixx touring solo but I don't see Mick doing so, though I bet he'll have the best album out of the four of them.
