The Burden Of Being Wonderful

Steel Panther just released a video for the single "The Burden of Being Wonderful." The song is on the upcoming album All You Can Eat. I have to say, I love it. Actually, this is my favorite Steel Panther song yet.

Is Weird Al opening for them on their next tour? No thanks. If I want comedy, I watch comedians.

Love it - IMO, one of their best songs.

Just can't take these guys seriously.

I don't think you're supposed to Eddie as there's enough serious business in the world, day to day so enjoy, relax and escape! :)

Awesome, Awesome, and more friggn' awesome.

Again, I don't need comedy mixed with my music. But that's just me!

bkallday.. It's not "just you". There are way to many great young bands releasing some killer stuff to be bothered with this stuff.

Not telling anyone they have to like anything. To each their own, dig what you dig. I was just pointing out they are a comedy act and in character but make great music in that setting as well hence, their not trying to be serious. I don't think AC/DC were trying to be serious in the career either (just glance at the song titles,Angus' schoolboy schtick, etc.) before anyone jumps the gun, not comparing SP to AC/DC's legacy either. Personally, I'm not "bothered" by any band's music because I don't listen to bands I'm not into as there's room for everyone and SP seem to generate a response regardless.

I hear ya Rock it, they will never get one red cent from me. They are only doing this for the money and attention, imo it has nothing whatsoever to do with loving the genre or music. Matter of fact, I think they are haters of the genre, which is proven by them clowning on the music & styles from it. I will listen to some Wild Boyz or Tuff, anyday of the week, over these clown shoes wearing troglodytes! I can just see these punks in the locker room before the gig, jamming to Pearl Jam while ragging on the bands/fans that theyre ripping off. Lol. No sir, I refuse to buy in!
January 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterbkallday
Sorry, haters of the genre?! Google any member and you'll see their hair band histories. Ask Stevie Rachelle! the singer? L.A. Guns, Atomic Punks(premier VH tribute),etc. guitarist? Fight w/ Rob Halford, War & Peace with Pilson from Dokken, Paul Gilbert, etc. so sorry, that's far from the truth. Again, don't buy it if you don't like it but at least look up some facts!

Exactly zero of those bands that you mentioned are considered glam. Especially not Fight(who I like). Still waiting on a glam connection!

These guys don't do a thing for me, personally.

Still, gotta hand it to 'em... This is at least listenable wordswise and they deliver a decent, though not incredible, by any means, quite pleasant song musically.

Yet, it lacks irony as with most of their stuff.

And boyz, there's comedy acts and there's comedy acts. These guys are. Spoof that's not that funny.

Comedy in Rock & Roll has been around since the beginning. But what makes it work much better are the way acts ranging from Chuck Berry, The Who, Alice Cooper, The Stooges, Aerosmith, KISS, Cheap Trick, AC/DC, Sex Pistols, The Damned, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Crüe, Poison, RATT and more recently, Reckless Love plus a handful of others (please add) incorporate it into their music.

I think the best example is expressed by this quote from the New Times Review of AC/DC Live on a stop during their "Ballbreaker" (one of my all-time fave AC/DC songs) Tour at Madison Square Garden on March 15th, 1996, a show I witnessed from the 6th Row....

"... Beneath the cartoon veneer lurks one of the hard rock blues guitarists alive today.", referring to Angus Young's goofball stage persona juxtaposed by his ultra-killer guitar playing.

The double entendre humor in their words and the incredible talent making up the band combined wih their over the top stage antics, particularly Young's is the way to do it at the highest level!

A more recent example of a band that does humor better is Dangerous Toys. They are the perfect blend of hilarious words and killer guitar... A lethal combination of BADA*S & Humor... Check out the videos on YouTube of "Teasin' Pleasin'" and "Sportin' A Woody" and you'll get what I mean.

Again, not my cup of tea, but I give 'em props for tryin' and helping to Bring Back Glam!, even if I think their approach is all wrong.

And though catchy, this isn't as catchy as some of their earlier stuff. I actually think they're beginning to run out of stupid LCD ideas and are on their way to extinction.

We just may get the last laugh after all.

p.s. Still love the new album cover, regardless. Maybe it's more prophetic than we realize... "The 'LAST' Supper"? Could this be a tip off to they're final curtain call?

Geez, re-reading what I wrote, I sound drunk... But I'm not, I swear. Typo City!

Here's what I meant to write...

Paragraph 3: "These guys are a spoof that's not that funny."

Paragraph 6: "I think the best example of this is expressed by a quote from the New York Times review of..."

Paragraph 7: "... Beneath the cartoon veneer lurks one of the greatest Hard Rock Blues guitarists alive today."

Paragraph 10: "Again, Steel Panther are not my cup of tea..."

In the P.S.: "Could this be a tip off to their final curtain call?"

Dangerous Toys are an incredible band and they use the comedy really well in the music. I think it's all in fun. I see them as one of the greatest bands of the 21st century. It's not original by any means, but they want to have fun with it, and if they want to, and if the fans love it, why not? I love these guys. And to say they don't take music seriously and hate glam, is just bs, Michael Starr, or Ralph Saenz had a stint in LA Guns, and sang on the "wasted" ep, I think its pretty damn good. If I remember correctly I think all the members have side rock and metal bands on the side from Steel Panther.

As far as this song goes, I am not huge on it. I think Feel The Steel and Balls Out are great albums though, that have great songs. And their single before this was pretty good, Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of The World. I'll grab a copy of the album when it comes out, if I dig the new one at all..

I love these guys! Glad they're still flying the glam flag, when so many other 'glam' bands dont anymore. I saw them at The Casino in Hampton Beach last summer and it was one of the best shows of the summer.Great musicians, songs and the comedy only adds to the show as people were smiling and laughing,,what the world needs sometimes.Lighten up

If I want comedy, ill watch something with Will Ferrell in it. But if I want good music, I won't be listening to Will Ferrell's band. Get it?
January 25, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterbkallday
The only thing funny about the band is that they wear wigs. The music sucks and the singer blows. I know it's supposed to be a joke but it's just plain not funny. Everybody I've met that like this band, hates glam metal with a passion.
January 25, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterThe Outsider
Pull the stick out of your ass. It's a well executed joke.
If you can't laugh at it, you're taking yourself too seriously.
