A New Motley Crue Album?

MetalXS TV recently did a video feature on the Motley Crue farewell tour. Two things jumped out at me here: the body language between Tommy Lee and Mick Mars and the ongoing possibility of a new Motley album. First, is it me, or did Tommy and Mick choose to sit a mile apart from each other? Second, it's interesting to me that Mick sort of leaves the door open for a new album and not just a handful of songs. Curious that he didn't just shoot down the possibility 100%. I actually think Tommy's answer of possibly recording new music for the movie, The Dirt, makes a lot of sense and will probably happen.

I'm an old school Crüehead but imo they shouldn't do another album unless they're gonna write all the songs. No outside writers!!! Tommy, Mick, & Vince have proven they are fully capable of writing great songs, so let them actually contribute this time, Nikki. If not, there's no need for further material. Even though I thought SOLA was a solid release.

SOLA was a pretty good release, but also kinda forgetable. To this day, I still pull out the original version of the Too Fast for Love album at least once a month, but can't tell you the last time I pulled out SOLA.

You summed it up perfectly!

I am dying for a new CD...
But if it's gonna have the 2 other guys from Sixx A.M's fingerprints (& whoever else) all over it, it will only be another disappointment to me.

Actually...
I would be 100% happy if they just had 5 new songs (written only by the 4 band members) as part of the soundtrack to "The Dirt" movie & have 1 deep cut from each studio album along w/a couple unreleased songs to fill out the rest of the soundtrack.

That would make for a really cool worthwhile compilation/soundtrack.

ALSO ON A KINDA UNRELATED NOTE:
They should release all the "Personality #9" demos on to a full CD.

I think Mick is going to concentrate on his solo album, & you'll see that before any possible new Crue record. Just my opinion.

Probably so Ace, I have really high hopes at to how good a Mick solo CD could possibly be. I love the song "Bittersuite" he did that was part of the "Quaternary" EP.

Ally, concerning the mile apart seating arrangement,I think Mick is pissed that "Techno Tommy, the worlds oldest teenager" (and "Vodka Vince")tossed him under the bus with their cop out concerning touring that "Micks health can't handle it". Just my opinion.....

That's a great idea Jakki,
That would be the best move Motley Crue could ever make at this stage of their career. They will never be able to make a 10/12 song CD full of actual good songs.

I'd rather they don't make a full new CD and just have a handful of good quality new songs in a soundtrack for "The Dirt".

As a diehard Cruehead, I would love to hear some new music. I am so pumped for The Dirt movie, so I hope they do something cool with that. I am for sure making this tour. One of the best rock n roll bands to ever exist. Alice puts on a hell of a show and is the icing on the cake.

I agree with bkallday. If they are going to put out something new, it should be a MC-only affair.

Gary, those comments about Tommy and Vince made me laugh . . . and I think you are spot on about Mick's opinion of his band-mates these days.

Ace and The Outsider are also to the point: Mick has a lot of other interests and opportunities these days. Besides, the fact that he is working with Corabi again is great news. Two very talented artists.

Is Mick really working w/Corabi?

If John Corabi is the singer on Mick's solo CD, then I have no doubt in my mind that I will love that CD!

That would be the best news I have heard in years!

I love John Corabi's Unplugged CD.

Like I said before (I love Vince like all hell but) I really want to hear all of the "Personality #9" demos!
[I loved the John Corabi Motley Crue stuff]

If John Corabi is the singer on Mick's solo CD It would make me so damn happy!

Any new final Crue CD should only consist of songs written by the actual band members. The other guy's from Sixx A.M should never ever again be allowed to write songs for Motley Crue. Anything else would be completely disrespectful to the legacy of the once almighty Crue.

I would love for Mick to release a solo CD.

I would love to have a "Personality #9" [Demos] CD.

I won't hold my breath though, the guys from Motley Crue have been very good at disappointing me during the last 15 years or so.

If Corabi is working with Mick, then the album should be great. I don't mind that the SIXX AM guys write Motley material, cos I love SIXX AM too. It would be cool to see some other ideas from the other members.

Agree with the viewpoint of those who believe a new album should strictly be a Mötley Crüe affair.

I will ask Corabi if he's working with Mars when I see him on The Monsters of Rock Cruise. I will report back his answer.

I do hope I didn't jump the gun in my anticipation. I was reading another site (Bravewords, with a link to the full interview). I suppose the fact that they were "talking" was enough for me!

Metalboy!, I'd love to know if that was just a back of the napkin comment (if it was, and I over-stepped, my apologies) or if that talking has progressed further (the comment was made at the end of last year).

But it does seem like they respect each other, and like that respect might morph into something once the MC thing runs its course and/or as Mars continues to tinker with solo stuff in the interim. Clearly, Mars isn't wedded to the idea of MC in the long-term. The latest interviews prove that. If Motley wants to make music, fine. But Mars has been talking up his plans alongside Sixx. I just hope the talk translates sooner than later.

Again, I apologize if my excitement at the idea got the better of me. So please send back a high-seas report, Metalboy! I am sure a lot of us would like more details.

No secret TOmmy cant stand to be around or associated with hard rock music let alone the Crue. A contract was signed some years ago and that contract is almost forfilled so Tommy will not have to be in the situation he is in anymore.

I feel this has taken a huge toll on the other members of the Crue with Nikki just about giving up on the Crue to concentrate on anything and everything else besides the Crue same with Vince with Mick let holding the ball ... I feel Mick would love nothing more than to record the another REAL KICKASS record and tour till he drops ... I actually think NIkki would like that as well, but finds the situation not going to happen no matter how hard he has tried to pull this band together and keep them together over the last 6-8 years ...

Nikki and Mick should of started a side project years ago ...

Good points all Neal. But I think that Mars and Sixx have wildly different tastes in music and want to explore different aspects of rock. Sixx strikes me as being interested in glam-tinged/tech-influenced metal/rock; Mars seems to hold to a more 70s/80s hard/classic rock vibe. I see Corabi fitting the latter (hence, my over-step) and Sixx AM/Brides fitting the former. If both follow their interests, it is a win/win for fans and for them as artists.

And Lee can dub-step his way into Ibiza while Neil makes a go at the casino circuit a la Michaels . . . neither of which is a swipe per se. It just points to how far apart they are when it comes to interests, outside (and likely inside) MC.

I think Nikki has followed this path as he see's no light at the end o\f the Motley tunnel ... I read a on a couple of occasions he has tried to bring the band together for recording sessions which has only ended up with the tune "Sex" ...

SUre I think Mick and Nikki may vary in tastes but that difference even in the past has led to some killer Crue tunes ... Sadly today though the fire is not there ...
February 27, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNeal
Thanks for the follow-up Neal. I see your point and I think we agree. The varied interest were an asset when the spark was there. I think the interests have diverged even further as that "fire" died down (for a host of reasons).
