Order Now: Kix 'Rock Your Face Off'

KIX is finally out with their first album of new material in, well, forever. Rock Your Face Off was officially released yesterday and the album is already blowing up the Amazon top seller list! You need to do your part to help KIX too, so make sure you hit up Amazon or iTunes and buy the record - it's like only $8 bucks. I haven't had enough time with the songs to do a proper review, so that will come in due time. For now, you can check out a full album stream on Loudwire.

Imagine my surprise when I saw that Stereogum picked Rock Your Face Off as album of the week. Of course the snobs in the comments section didn't appreciate the pick or the awesomeness that is KIX but I think you guys know what you need to do: get thee to Stereogum and school the hipsters!

I went to Walmart specifically to see if they had this. Had 2, bought one. I haven't listened to it yet, other than Wheels in Motion and it sounds good. I never was/have been a big Kix fan, never was exposed to them. So I'm hoping it was well worth the 10 dollars

Earlier today, I checked out the record on Spotify. Mmmm, this is one I won't be purchasing. One decent song on the whole record. And that's it.

This ain't no "Blow My Fuse". Not even close. There's nothing even remotely as catchy as "Cold Blood".

Is it fair to compare artists to their previous work? Maybe, maybe not. Is it fair to compare it to records put out by artists of the same era and genre? I think so. And I SO wanted this Kix record to be good.

I've been listening a lot to the latest Night Ranger record, High Road. Same era, pretty much the same genre. It blows me away. The new Kix, not so much.

Mike, I hope you enjoy, but it's just not for me.

Everyone has their opinion here and The Cheap Seats certainly feels differently than me and every other person I have talked to about this new CD from KIX. You are telling this only has ONE decent song???? Now I am not about to start comparing any songs on here to Cold Blood, but to me there are plenty of "catchy" songs - Wheels in Motion, Rollin in Honey, Rock your face off, Can't Stop the Show, Mean Miss Adventure, Love me with top down,Tail on the wag and Rock & Roll showdown are really great hard rock KIX type songs. The AC-DC influence is ALL over this CD. Can't believe I am having to defend this CD on this site, but everyone has a right to their opinion. Again, to me this may be the hardest rocking KIX cd they have produced. I have been listening to the entire CD non-stop since yesterday...and it was great rolling the windows down and cranking new KIX in my car on the way to work today! Didn't think I would ever be able to do that again! Not a bad way to start a Wednesday!

And by the way, I just checked Amazon and Rock Your Face Off is #11 OVERAL on their Best Sellers list. That's not just the hard rock/metal category (which they are #1) but among all genre's of music! Awesome!!! :-)

I've listened to it twice and think it is a great album from beginning to end. I especially like how Steve's voice growls/screams at the beginning of Rock and roll showdown.
Mean miss adventure is a kick ass tune also. Dirty Girls is cool tune with funny lyrics. I like how they incorporate backing vocals and lots of great riffs. The songs are very catchy. Brian and Ronny are so good together and I'm sure they had a blast making this new release.
I think it speaks volumes that this album is doing so well on the charts. I know that I'm doing my part, for I bought it on iTunes and plan on getting a hard copy today.

Huh-uh-lo-oh, Cheap Seats!

You lost me when you wanted to compare this to AOR Kings, Night Ranger, one of THE Most Boring and Mediocre 80's Schlock Rock Bands of All Time.

This is REAL Rock & Roll, something you are obviously incapable of recognizing.

I picked this record up yesterday @ Best Buy. It was on sale for $7.99 and they had about 6 copies on an end cap. It even was in the flyer in the Sunday paper. There is no reason not to support the band and music you love. It's easy to find and cheap.

I gave it a spin. If you like Kix, you'll love it. The single is a good representation of the record. Heavy and it sounds good. The funny thing is, the new bass player does the bulk of the writing. Some of it with the old producer who used to co-write with the LAST bass player.

No Brainer for $7.99

I like KIX. I'm only really familiar with the Blow My Fuse record. I'll pick this up if I see it. The single was pretty good, so I'll give it a spin.

It's a pretty basic, by the numbers KIX record. I'll put it on par w/ "Cool Kids". Song Writing-wise, it's no Hot Wire, Blow My Fuse, or Midnight Dynamite. But, for mindless cranking while your on the freeway, it'll do.

Speaking of songwriting, (or lack of it) Anyone see the story about Pretty Boy Floyd guitarist Kristy Majors getting caught stealing a whole album's worth of material from another band & trying to pass it off like he wrote it? (Something they also did & got away with in 1989)... Pretty pathetic...

Having the buzz and distribution this album already has makes RYFO a huge success for Kix & glam in 2014.

Much congrats to the boys. They DESERVE it!!!!!

Only listened once but there are 4 solid, solid KIX tunes!!

Ace.I read that yesterday. What a freaking douche nozzle.Did he seriously think nobody would notice the blatant plagiarism? Didn't even bother changing anything around a bit to at least pretend it was his. Lol.
August 7, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterGary
Yeah, Ace I read that over on Metal Sludge. Unfrickin'believable.

Not defending 'em, but at least with Pretty Boy Floyd, there were some associations between the two bands, as they had many of the same members, though Kerry Doll and Aerial Stiles should have been properly credited.

However, this latest Kristy "Krash" Majors incident, where he blatantly rips off Swingin' Things warrants a psychiatric evaluation.

And the new KIX absolutely frickin' ROCKS BALLZ! I listened to it twice all the way through last night and it is phenomenal!

p.s. Ace, we do disagree, however. Though it is great, Cool Kids is better. That just tells you how absolutely incredible their back catalogue really is!

Ok like MB, listened to twice via stream. It's a very very good album!!!

I know I love the band, but honestly I have paid about $12 for music in last year or so. I bought this record. It helps that it's reasonably priced. Remember value for quality product?

So there u have it. The self proclaimed stuck in the 80's glammer just bought new music (albeit from a 70/80's band ;-) )!!!

MB, we have no argument that KIX's entire back catalog is pretty strong. The only one I could never really get into was "Show Business".

As far as Kristy Majors & his penchant for song theft goes, He deserves to have the snot beaten out of him, everywhere he goes! It was a shame that PBF pretty much got away with ripping off Kery & Aeriel in 90, and I'm glad that Paul from Swingin' Thing & his newer band "Suckerpunch", stood up & said something this time. Kristy's entire recorded career is littered with this kind of theft. He did it to Kery & Aeriel on "LBWET", they stole Big Bang Babies "Everybody Needs A Hero" for PBF's "Porn Stars" LP, Kristy stole Backyard Babies tune "The Kids Are Right From Doing Wrong" & just changed the words for his "Kids On Dope".

I HATE song thieves!
August 7, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAce Steele
Yeah, agreed.

I think he coulda done the Pretty Boy Floyd with proper credit and still made out but I'm sure he lied along with the rest of his partners in crime that went into PBF.

Ya gotta wonder about Fowley, who supposedly named the band. Surely, he must have known what was going on!

Anything for a buck, these friction' greedy bastards!

Unfortunately, it's a helluvan album, if ya didn't know the RIPOFFS!

With ya on "Show Biz", too. Pretty weak except for one or two, maybe.

p.s. BTW, doncha think WARRANT knocked off Big Bang Babies, "Everyone Needs A Hero" with "Big Talk"? Sounds like a direct rip to me!

I really like the new Kix record. It's clear that they understand their target market and have served it well with this release. I could do without the ballad though. it's easily the weakest track. I've never heard of Stereogum, and I have no interest in engaging with, let alone schooling, hipsters. Let them live in their delusional world where they think they're better than everybody else. it has no bearing on my life. Arguing with them serves no purpose, and I guarantee it wouldn't get even one of them to drop money on the new Kix album. Anyway, it's Friday, the weekend is almost here, the new Kix album is out, and I will be playing it loudly for my neighbors. maybe they'll dig the music and stop over for a cold beer!

MB,
"Big Talk" was around lonnnng before the BBB's were ever formed.
Warrant was playing that live in 87, & the Big Bang Babies weren't formed until late 89/early 90.

Also, Jani was always a very prolific writer not only for Warrant, but for other acts like Fiona thanks to his publishing deal. In fact, one of Jani's songs "Life On The Moon" that was on Fiona's "Squeeze" LP is probably my favorite tune he ever wrote.
