Now the latter is subjective, but I'll take Crüe over TeslUGH! any day, simply on "Two Fast For Love" alone.
Actually, I am somewhat ambivalent about Tesla. Like some of their stuff, don't care for other things. And I would place them below Crue as well . . . in terms of impact and output. But it isn't really a fair comparison in terms of focus. To me, it's like comparing Venom to ZZ Top (won't say which is which!).
Oh, and should bkallday be lurking about, reading to tilt at the windmills again, this discussion in no way contradicts my more recent comments. You see, here I am responding to a specific comparison; there I was avoiding a needless ranking relating to a needless organization.
Motlëy Crüe = Household Name
TeslUGH! = Nevah Hoyd of 'Em
... And the primary reason why?
The MUSIC!
I think a lot of it is timing, marketing, hard work and good luck, to various extents. Not just good songs. A lot of the bands we love were never household names to the average joe. Kiss - Yes. Van Halen - check. Motley Crue - of course.
But there are plenty of others that warrant (that's one) blank looks from most people who hear their names. Not us of course, but most people have no clue about what constitutes real music.
And I like both Crue and Tesla (ugh!) :)
