The New Winery Dogs Album Is Out

Happy Monday. Let's try to ease back into the work week (this weekend seemed to go really fast). Monday is a good day to check out new tunes and The Winery Dogs just released Hot Streak. I'm pumped for this because I'm a Richie Kotzen fanatic. Here's the press release I was sent about the new album.

October 2, 2015 – In 2013, three of rock music’s preeminent musicians—Richie Kotzen, Mike Portnoy and Billy Sheehan—joined forces to release their self-titled, self-produced debut album. Two years later, the trio known as THE WINERY DOGS is back with their second album, proving the immense critical acclaim, Top Ten chart positions and numerous sold-out shows worldwide wasn’t a fluke.

HOT STREAK is THE WINERY DOGS’ appropriately titled, self-produced studio album, which came out today on Loud & Proud Records via RED (a division of Sony Music Entertainment) and in the rest of the world via earMUSIC. It was preceded by the first single, “Oblivion,” which was released to radio August 25 and quickly made its way onto the Top 30 of the Billboard “Mainstream Rock Tracks” chart.  A double vinyl edition of the new album is also in the works and is due out November 13.

As of October 1, HOT STREAK was sitting at #7 on iTunes’ Pre-Order Rock Albums chart, as well as many of Amazon’s top pre-order lists, including:

#1         Amazon BestSellers – Hard Rock
#5         Amazon BestSellers – Rock
#9         Amazon BestSellers – Pop
#9         Amazon BestSellers – All Music
#1         Amazon Pre-Orders – Hard Rock Albums
#2         Amazon Pre-Orders By Price ($9.99)
#3         Amazon Pre-Orders – Rock Albums
#5         Amazon Pre-Orders – Pop Albums
#6         Amazon Pre-Orders – CD / All Music
#6         Amazon Customer Top 20 Picks

Last week, Eddie Trunk—who was instrumental in introducing Kotzen to Portnoy and Sheehan in 2012 when the band was first forming—premiered two songs, “Captain Love” and “Hot Streak,” on his weekly “Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk” SiriusXM radio show. “THE WINERY DOGS have taken the incredible precedent for songs and performance set on their debut to the next level with HOT STREAK,” Trunk says. “More brilliant stuff from what is easily my favorite new band.”

Pour Metalboy!'s head must be spinning off with the Winery Dogs and Eddie Trunk mentioned in the same press release. :)

Hahaha!!! How right you are, Bob! The only other related things that would push me over the edge they forgot to mention are as follows:

Church of Scientology, an organization that brainwashes and even murders it's followers, as Billy Sheehan is a high ranking cult member, ranking right up there with Tom Cruise in the "church"'s hierarchy.

And...

Dream Theater, one of the most unrock bands ever created, of which Mike Portannoy is a former overplayer of drums (just like Sheehan overplaying his bass).

But I understand why bands like this need to exist... So Metalboy! can nap on the Monsters of Rock Cruises. Poor Portannoy... Obviously, a very skilled drummer who just never played with a REAL Rock & Roll band!

Portnoy at least has some cred. He has played with Twisted Sister, and filled in a few times with Overkill. Also, that live Beatles project he did with Paul Gilbert, Matt Bissonette and Neal Morse was pretty cool.

Speaking of Portnoy...check out his Flying Colors band...they are great. The song "Fury of my Love" has been on constant rotation for me as of late.

...and the only thing Billy Sheehan is killing is the Bass guitar...he is a tremendous bass player and one of THE most respected bass players in Rock & Metal period. Along with Steve Harris of Iron Maiden...who else is more respected?

Respected, shmected... Billy Sheehan and Mike Portannoy are chronic overplayers who lack Rock & Roll sensibility in the final analysis... They've both flirted with it...

Sheeham with "Addicted To That Rush", an excellent song which he's carried with him from band to band and I wish he would do so with Winery Snobs, I mean Dogs, as that would be their only good song -- Look guys, let's face it -- their albums have to be the most boring stuff out there, rivaled only by Chickensh*t, I mean foot. Both examples of accomplished TECHNICIANS. True, they are musicians, but really can't write their way out of a paper bag.

And Portannoy's obvious only saving grace is the fact he played with Twisted Sister for 5 minutes as a laff as well as when Dream Theater covered a REAL Rock & Roll album. I'm also willing to bet he overplayed Ringo's parts on that Beatles thing you mention, as Ringo's playing is the epitome of simplicity and perfection.

Reality is, they just never truly Rocked in their very own REAL Rock & Roll band, thus, they are both forever to be categorized eternally as "UNROCK".

p.s. FYI, JAT -- Sheehan is a murderer simply because of his guilt by association... Scientologists kill members while he looks away. If he cared at all about human life, he would walk away. Watch "Going Clear", the documentary about Scientology, to realize what vermin the guy truly is, just like Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

Oh, and if I ever said Steve Harris isn't an accomplished bass player, I take it back. What he is, however, is an extraordinarily lousy songwriter (save for "Can I Play With Madness" and a handful of others).

I have tried to like this band but I just cannot get into the music at all. Sure like everyone says each individual member are very accomplished musicians, but the songs are not there for me anyways.

Actually, Mr. Metelboy!, my good sir, You would be surprised how much Portnon kept his playing in check for the Yellow Matter Custard project. In fact, all four players in that band treated the musical arrangements with restraint and respect. the only exception was the end of "While My guitar Gently weeps" when Gilbert shreds for a couple minutes. Otherwise, they all were there to show how brilliantly The Beatles put their musical and vocal parts together. For once, it wasn't an ego fest. there is a double live album floating around out there. IMHO, it is worth checking out.

Bob! I am glad to hear Michael Poorboy avoided over exercising his ego, though I'm sure there is some, when you consider how outsized it really is, taking into consideration his underwhelming achievements despite all of the opportunities he's been given over the years.

Let's face it, the guy's made some bad choices... Still, he may still have a chance to sign up with a REAL Rock & Roll Band!
