I actually might make it to this show. What a thought: meeting Ace and buying him a beer!??!

If I do go, though, not sure I will make it in time for Great White. There are plenty of things to do in Vegas that don't involve Terry Ilous (mind you, perfect for XYZ . . . but a rough fit for Great White).

Him,
That'd be great if you make it to the show.
During Great White, you'll find me & "B" either at the bar, or close to a fire exit.

I'm glad to see Im not the only one who doesn't dig Ilous in Great White! It just doesn't work for me (which is a shame, because Great White is one of my favorite bands from back in the day.) They had a shit ton of really good, catchy tunes ( none of which sound nearly as good w/ Terry behind the mic instead of Jack). If all you guys do go,please tilt a cold one for me whilst belly'd up to the bar! 👍

Dunno what the facts are, but it feels like it all happened right around the first Monsters of Rock when Great White and XYZ were both on the bill. It's like Great White picked Ilous out of convenience, because he was already headed on it so just get him.

Instead, they can do now what they should have done long ago... finding someone who can at least approach a lot better approximation to the chops and sound of the legendary Russell. Or better yet, just give him one more chance!

I just saw Great White for the second time (have also seen and enjoyed Jack's band recently). While there's definitely something missing and less of the nostalgic feel, I do think Terry brings something to the table. I will catch either of them whenever I can just because it's so much fun to experience some of my favorite songs live, plus I admire people from both groups.

Nah... Look, nothing against Ilous -- he's got a fairly solid voice -- but he just doesn't have that extra level of strength... oh, what's the term I'm looking for? Oh, yeah... "Balls", that's what his voice lacks.

Twisted Sister is honestly the only band worth seeing here. The Skids without Baz is ridiculous, same with Great White, and I was never really a huge Extreme fan.

Dj, you are pretty much speaking my language.

But I have reevaluated Extreme over the years. So much of their stuff was so, so, so cheesy (I really never wanted to "get the funk out," thank you very much). Still, songs like "Stop the World" sound--to my older ears--amazingly good now. There is something (please forgive this comparison) Beatle-esque about songs like that, or at least Tears for Fears-ish. They were/are a great set of musicians. And Cherone has an excellent set of pipes. But the VH gig exposed just how niche that voice was (even if people unfairly, myself included, slagged that album too much). I still want to drive a stick through my ear-holes when I hear "Hole Hearted." But I also recognize that as being a better-than-average representation of what a metal ballad should sound like and not a by-the-numbers "When the Children Cry" (a band I love a lot more) sorta' "we gotta' do this" thing.

I trend towards Russell when it comes to Great White, even if his voice is getting increasingly high even as he seems--seems?--to be doing increasingly well with his rotating cast of bandmates. Like I said, Ilous has a great voice . . . for a different band. And I increasingly think that, in spite of all the mental and emotional and financial harm Russell caused to Great White, Kendall has shown himself to be a self-satisfied and sanctimonious reformed addict, one who sold out a person he cared for in order to set himself on a path to who-knows-what. While I initially felt for what he and the band went through, I now see it as more calculated and damaging than that. Again, Russell is no saint. But I think he drew the short end of the straw, in what he did to himself and what he had done to him. I guess there is no double jeopardy when it comes to the gritty reality of small time--and, really, both versions of GW are dealing with that now--rock n' roll.

Skid Row? I need to stop talking about them. I have said enough.
