The Darkness Release New Song

The Darkness are back with new music. The band just premiered the song "Hammer and Tongs" from the upcoming album Last Of Our Kind. To be honest, I'm not too impressed, but maybe this track will grow on me. What do you think?

Yeah. The song is OK. I really love these guys, though. I've seen em live 3 times and they never disappoint. A truly amazing band.

Sounds like a bit of a dog's breakfast. Does this album have a producer?

I thought the same thing, Steve. Justin Hawkins' falsetto has always been a bit thin, to say the least, but here it's blatantly obvious, which may have been intentional as I think they were going for a raw and more immediate sounding performance.

However, the song itself is AMAZING! The songwriting just reaffirms they're at the top of today's Rock & Roll Mountain. I mean, who even comes close to this guy when it comes to that?

And the guitars may just be the best aping of 70's Stones I've ever heard and you actually do hear Hawkins' voice finally gather steam toward the end. I just wished it maintained the multi tracked resonance of overproduced production we've all grown to love and expect from these guys.

Let him f*ck it up live but, personally, I don't need to hear him singing from the ledge like he's about to jump from the roof of Capitol Records when I want him sounding like there's five of him in Studio A. Speaking of records, ya gotta love the crackling sound of vinyl fading out at the song's conclusion.

I like it. It's pretty decent. Don't love it as much as I Believe in a Thing Called Love or Bald. But it's pretty solid.

I've always liked them musically, and this is just personal taste, but I can't get into the vocals with the over-the-top falsetto.

I know that's a lot of the appeal to many, but for me I like the instrumentation, but if it had vocals that I liked better, I'd be all in.

Yep. Always loved that one, too GNR. Check out on YouTube the stuff from Justin Hawkins' band he formed after The Darkness broke up... Hot Leg! Equally Stupifying!
