Farewell Glenn Frey
We've lost another legend, Glam friends. Glenn Frey died yesterday. The co-founder and guitarist for the Eagles was just 67. The band left a statement on their official website:
"Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia."
Rest in peace Glenn Frey. The Eagles co-founder and guitarist passed away at age 67. https://t.co/DIzZ4GSsKp pic.twitter.com/kTGXvGlc2l

Here's one of the best songs from the 80s period - "You Belong To The City"

Dale "Buffin" Griffin, the drummer from one of the most important GLAM bands in history,
MOTT THE HOOPLE , also died today. Like Frey, he was also 67.
I fear that Dale is going to be "Eric Carr'd" & his death will be completely overshadowed, much like Eric's was, when he died the same day as Freddie Mercury.
Even if you don't know his name, you definitely know at least some of his music...
they were David Bowie's favorite band, after all.
He respected them enough to write a song for them, to keep them from breaking up...
You must have heard "ALL THE YOUNG DUDES" ?

or: ROLL AWAY THE STONE ?

But The Eagles/Frey were huge and wrote some crazy good songs & much like Lemmy, transcend genres because he saw Motörhead as rock n roll, Poison as rock n roll and Priest as well. Lemmy imo got a ton of I think much deserved love on BBG because of impact to music, our sub culture of '80's Rock n roll and the image/philosophy of be yourself warts n all. Which obviously can teach a whole lot more about self esteem than most parents will teach in their time trying to shape responsible adults.
On the other Hand I cringe every year when year end news shows and events like the Grammys do their "passings" segments of who died throughout the year in culture, and the arts. For example at the Grammys there will be thunderous applause for Glenn Frey, and courtesy claps for Dale. In this instance, I am saddened that the loss of an artist and a fellow human doesn't receive the same amount of "recognition" through the innate sound of hands making noise to show approval or appreciation.
Sorry for diatribe. Peace
I actually question if Dale will even get a mention.
It's the same as what happened to Dennis Ritchie, the Bell Labs scientist who wrote the computer programming language "C" and, with long-time colleague Ken Thompson, the Unix operating system. Unix & C are the basic underpinning of pretty much every computer running & it's the virtual backbone of the Internet.
When he died, it was virtually ignored, because he had the misfortune to die the same day as Steve Jobs... a salesman who never wrote a single line of programming code.
Sad to see all these well-known and respected artists dying.
Glad I got to see the Eagles years ago.
Jeff, as Ace points out, Buffin's passing is also notable.
He played on some of the coolest albums ever as a founding member of Mott the Hoople, particularly "All The Way From Memphis", "All The Young Dudes" and "MOTT". Nearly EVERY track on the latter two are totally killer.
Regardless the genre, I think we should celebrate them all . . . as much while they are around as when they sadly pass.
And we shouldn't rely on traditional mediums to disseminate news of all those deaths equally. Not only is not likely, it isn't really that important. That is why sites like this exist. That's why fans like us exist. We keep them living every time we remember. Trite. Cliche. You name it. But it is true.
In times like this, memories are a small, but necessary, comfort.
