'That Metal Show' Canceled

Vh1 has given That Metal Show the axe. I have to say this surprises me because so many people seem to watch the program. TV is a brutal business, so the show must not have been delivering well enough to pull in good advertising dollars. The show did last eight years, which is a long run.

VH1 CLASSIC Will No Longer Produce 'That Metal Show' http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/vh1-classic-will-no-longer-produce-that-metal-show/

Apparently Eddie Trunk and his agent are working on finding the show a new home. Stay tuned I guess.

I'll bet $100 that TMS ends up on AXS or Palladia. Anyone else have guess.

Bonus point to Trunk for wearing the shirt of a band that is near & dear to my heart... STARZ !

If you don't know their music, you really should!
Especially all you Motley/Poison/Danger Danger fans...
The members of those bands all bow to the shrine of Starz!

My bet is on AXS. Palladia is owned by VH1 so it won't go there. AXS or possibly some place like Amazon Prime maybe? Might be a good thing for a place like Amazon...see an artist...click this link to buy his record or whatever. Things like Picks of the Week...buy it immediately. Just a thought.

Indeed, Ace... STARZ (from Jersey) are iconic (also, with one of THE coolest band logos ever). I bought their single, "Cherry Baby" on gold clear vinyl afted hearing it on local AM radio in the late 70's when I was still in my teens.

I then bought all their albums along with Aerosmith, Zeppelin, The Who, AC/DC, Cheap Trick, Boston, Priest, Sabbath, Stones, Hoople, Bowie, Floyd, Nugent, Trower, Queen, Nazareth and also, Pistols, Damned, Ramones, Blondie, 999, Stranglers, etc. as they came out during that era and singles by all of those bands if they had any.

I remember having it occur to me and telling friends at that time, "Whoever figures out how to combine these genres, Metal/Hard Rock and Punk will really be onto something".

I even had a band at the time in High School called RAGE (hahaha!!!). We mostly did covers of AC/DC, Priest and Zeppelin. One night on a win, I convinced the band to do a couple of run throughs of a way heavied up version of The Bay City Rollers' "I Only Wanna Be With You" but I couldn't get the band to put it in the set.

Well, needless to say, somebody did figure out how to take the sound of bands like Starz and Punk Rock and combine 'em together... Violá, Motlëy Crüe and others soon to follow like RATT and Poison!

As far as Eddie Chump goes, good riddance. That guy is such a simp (and a self absorbed as*hole) who gets the majority of his facts wrong and those two clowns with him on the show weren't funny at all.

He also didn't get enough good bands and because of budget constraints or whatever it was, didn't have the bands featured perform live, except once when Anvil performed as the Hollywood director who made the documentary about them footed the bill.

My guess is That Metal Show won't get picked up by Palladia, as that's a subsidiary of MTV just as VH1Classic, who just dropped it. It might get picked up by ASX, as Ace and JAT also speculate, but I can see why there's a chance it might just become a podcast, and again, it's the fact that Chump is, well, a oafish nerd and the two fools flanking him are idiots.

Somebody should tell Chump he can produce but have that chick Jennifer from the show interview the bands and also showcase live performances of the bands. And get better guests... I can only watch interviews with Unrock Neanderthal borefests like Scott "Unibrow" Ian so many times.

Bon voyage, Chump, and good riddance!

This news sucks! I find it difficult to find good programing that showcases hard rock and metal artists. I enjoyed the interviews and some of the banter between the hosts. I hope it finds a home somewhere.

No matter what your opinion of Eddie, Don, Jim doing a show, at least its a show about the music we love. It will be missed, although I have to admit, I turned it on less and less as time went on.

Don actually bothered me the most because I didn't get why you would need two comedians to help Eddie. I'm sorry that Eddie somehow shit on Metalboy!'s breakfast cereal and their relationship hasn't been the same since. :)

I thought they could of used more LIVE performances and less schtick. Also the needed to turn the corner by bringing in more newer bands. Maybe jam sessions with upstart bands and the metal/glam bands they looked up to.

Anyways... RIP That Metal Show as we know on VH1 Classic

Metalboy has a problem with everyone and everything, just ignore him. I bet the ppl that surround him find him so much fun to be around!

Its ridiculous why anyone that claims to love this type of music would crap all over That Metal Show. Eddie Trunk has been very nice the few times I have met him when he does his tours to promote his books, etc. Loved the different aspects of the show like "Picks of the Week", "wher are they Now" etc. Wasn't crazy over the other two hosts but they love metal. Eddie is very knowledgeable about metal AND loves a variety of sub-genres. Huge promoter of Glam bands. Who else is promoting this form of music at a national level? Nobody. Guess MB must have, one time, caught Eddie on a bad day when he wasn't at his most polite or whatever. Just silly to sling nonsense against someone who tirelessly promotes this form of music.

Metalboy!, I agree with you that Trunk has become pretty annoying. However, once you get past his incessant name-dropping, and putting his own small circle of friends on TMS when he can't book other guests, I still believe that, deep down inside, his heart is still in the right place, and his love for the music just as genuine as it's ever been.

Remember, he put in a lot of years on local New Jersey radio before he eventually became nationally known. In fact, I remember listening to him on WDHA when his only radio segment happened once a week. It was Friday night at midnight, and it was a metal news feature that lasted no more than five minutes. I give him credit for slugging it out all of those years when a lot of other people would have given up on their dream. My feeling is that he is so proud of himself for eventually achieving notoriety, and getting to meet his heros that he doesn't know how to handle it gracefully.

Because TMS was the anchor of VH1 Classics other metal-related programming, I wonder if we will soon see the Metal Mania video block disappear along with other special days dedicated to metal.

And finally, as for my fellow Jersey boys, Starz, if anyone needs further proof of their vast influence, look no further than the opening lyric to Motley Crue's "Take Me To The Top."

This just blows chunks. I really enjoyed the show. I thought the guys did an admirable job, seeing as their budget seemed to be about $35 per show. The jam between Michael Schenker and Kirk Hammet last year was an inkling of the kind of shit they could've been doing, were they to have more than loose change to work with.( Hammet paid his own way across the country for the chance to jam with his idol). I hope AXS or someone picks it up,and gives them more than pocket lint to work with,as it's the only show on tv that caters to our kind of music.

It's a shame VH1 Classic got rid of it, as it was one of the few TV Shows dedicated to Rock and Metal. And Eddie is one of the only people that promotes Glam on a huge level...he reunited Twisted Sister for the 9/11 charity show, and they've been kicking ads ever since, he's one of the few with enough love for music that he'd talk on national radio to a lot of people about a new George Lynch project, or talk about a Faster Pussycat show happening in 2016. I liked That Metal Show because of interviews with old bands we love, but also showing off some new talent here and there like having Andy from Black Veil Brides on the show, or talking about unknown bands. It would be cool to see them go to AXS TV and see what direction it goes in, because they feature some cool stuff on there.

My 2 cents I hate to see it go just because at least there was something on TV about Metal. I agree Trunk is very self important and the thing is he did pay his dues. I don't know how he supported himself in the beginning but I have to give credit to a guy who can make a living being a music fan. Quite envious of that aspect... Metalboy now I finally understand several of your comments.. I knew in my heart as much as you love the music you had to play at some point in your life!

Man, Metalboy, you really are a nasty character. Are you sure the reason Tesla did not act nicely toward you wasn't because you acted the way you normally act around here? Looks like they had you

This sucks. Was cool catching up with the older rockers and what they are doing now. The show with Jake E. Lee was awesome. Also will miss seeing the guest musicians. John 5 was on there numerous times and was incredible. This messes up my Sunday morning routine of a large cup of coffee and the DVR recording of the show from the night before!

U just described yourself perfectly

Yeah, but I didn't f*ck up what could have been a great show like that self important lard a*s.

Look guys, you seem to get confused about how I come to a realization about people. Obviously, I could care less about what people think or say about me or I wouldn't be voicing my HONEST opinion.

What irks me is how jerks like Chump present themselves and address their audience. If you can't detect his condescending tone toward audience members asking him questions during the "Stump The Trump" segment, you're either too imperceptive or are blinded by your own self important arrogance that you think Chump's behavior is normal.

As far as getting my facts wrong, which is usually the result of just wingin' it off my memory and being too lazy to fact check. I'll always be the first to admit when I get it wrong. But I didn't have my own TV show. I'm just shooting my mouth off here and there's a big difference between the two.

Chumpy Wumpy consistently got his facts wrong during the shows and particularly during "Stump The Chump" and didn't have a clue when he did or was in total denial when faced with getting something wrong, he actually revealed he has serious psychological problems right under the hot lights of national television.

Buh-by, Chump!

I tend to agree with JAT and GNR. I also worry, as Bob does, that this might mean the end of the Metal Mania blocks (though I am occasionally fine with the "120 Minutes" redux they seem to also run quite a bit). I guess that just shifts me further to Pandora and to Hair Nation on XM when I am busy at home working. And I can understand the idea of a podcast as well, even if I don't personally get my news/music/stories, etc. that way. It also means I can down-tier on Dish now, as that was one of the only stations I was actually paying the premium for . . . which might be sad, but it is what it is.

Besides, Trumk has his radio show. He has his guest festival hosting gigs (which might become a bit more select however). I am sure he will be just fine.

I personally appreciated his show airing music I like, with guest drummers and guitarists. And while I can totally understand someone thinking he had an ego, I am less inclined to care so long as he was promoting this sort of music. Besides, that "Stump the Trunk" stuff was pure shtick that everyone seemed to be in on. It wasn't well executed. But it was shtick. Personas drive shows and he had his. And like Dj and others noted, not liking him is not the same as him paying his dues (which I think he did). The show had a good run.
January 21, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterHim
Paying ones dues do not justify being an imbecile and I'm sure VH1 grew tired of his bullsh*t both on and off the screen.

As far as "Stump The Chump" is concerned, pure schtick is great but that doesn't take away from the fact that Chump and those two stiffs who call themselves comedians all talked down to the audience members.

And for the record, I had over 19 TMS's DVR'd I lost when I replaced the machine. It's not like I didn't appreciate having those moments like Schenker blowing Hammet off the stage or listening to the GOOD guests he had on there, who were simply too far between all his idiot regulars.

I'll give Chump one cool thing... He DID plug ICON, one of the coolest bands nobody ever heard. I strongly suggest you check out their albums if you haven't already done so.

p.s. Re-reading the comments above, JAT, regardless of the fact he can't handle me self appointing myself as Sheriff of the A*shole Police, actually has a good idea Chump probably won't read because he probably can't handle anything superior to his misinformed universe, and that is the idea of going on Amazon Prime... Watch the show, see the artist's interview who is hopefully someone at least half noteworthy and/or "Picks of The Week", which are usually always crap, and select a song or album from said artist. Brilliant!

ICON now your talking I guess those albums are out of print. I had the first one when i came out.

I don't like this news at all, as I'm friends with Don and want him to do well. The show has been great for all 3 and for the metal community in general. At least we had it for as long as we did (i got to attend a few tapings which was cool as well), and hopefully it returns in some form or another.
