Steel Panther Announce New Album, Release Video

Steel Panther will release a new album called Lower the Bar on February 27. The first single is "She's Tight" and it features Robin Zander of Cheap Trick! A video for the song is below.

A good fit for this band. And the Zander reveal is nicely done! This cover certainly doesn't break any new ground, and is nowhere near as good as the original. Nor will this win over any new converts (though it might turn some SP fans on to CT, which is a net positive). But a nice nod all the same.

I will now turn things over to wails of derision and jeers of non-approbation . . .

Cheap Trick is an Iconic band.Thats an awesome song. Good cover, and a healthy nod to a band who's never taken themselves too seriously for four decades now,and still found their way ( finally) into the Rock Hall. ( on a side note, I thought Steele really nailed Robin Zander's vocals.) When you look past the whole schlick of SP,these guys are a really talented band.

Now,on to your regularly scheduled "walls of derision and jeers of non-approbation" ( LMFAO Him!!!!!)

I'm here! On top of "the walls of derision and jeers of non-approbation!" You've nailed it again, HIM, boiling down what goes on here to a mere 8 words! I'll assume we can get The Trump Organization, helmed by the greatest derider of all time, to continue the construction (or destruction depending on how you look at it).

Now on for the derision, which, as you all very well know, I live for...

Obviously, the joke continues to wear even thinner, Steel Panther now having to resort to a cover from a band that's actually good. Look, there's no question, these guys are competent musicians, Ace previously particularly pointing out the L.A. Strip cred of the guitarist...

BUT, in the final analysis, whereas Cheap Trick, in their heyday, were hilarious beyond compare, Steel Panther just aren't and never were. Still, like I said, very competent cover. I've actually said Cheap Trick should be their inspiration but covering them isn't what I meant.

What I suggested is for Steel Panther to take a cue from Cheap Trick and write lyrics with double entendre, instead of the blatant frontal (pun inintended) words normally affixed to their actually quite good music. That's what could have gotten them some airplay, rather than their present formula leaving them toiling away in cult status purgatory.

It's funny because, I actually had a brief discussion with the bass player (perhaps the most unfunny of these sad clowns) about this very subject when I ran into him after crashing backstage at M3 a few years ago, even dropping Cheap Trick's name as an example of how to approach their songcraft. Hey, the guy seemed like he was listening... Maybe he actually was... We won't know until the new album comes out.

As for the video, aside from the humorously clever use of Zander (though, I really could have done without the excess nose hair), well, at least the chicks are hot.

Let's put it this way... At least they got it right with the new album's title.

I'm a huge fan of these guys have all there cds but I find the great songs like the debut are lacking g and just becoming more generic sounding all the time. I find the lyrics entertaining but doesn't really matter if the music sounds like a thousand other bands.

I'm really glad Steel Panther continue to put out new music and I'll definately get this on release day, and it's icing on the cake that they're covering Cheap Trick. Steel Panther is one of the things rock n roll needs right now, they never take themselves too seriously and even though the lyrics loose their effect after a while I think people need to laugh every now and again, even though their live shows are much better than their albums. Speaking of Cheap Trick, I finally saw them this year and they sounded pretty damn good! At one point I caught myself saying "Holy s#!t that's Robin Zander, a moment where I actually got star struck which dosent happen much. Rock n roll ain't goin anywhere anytime soon.

how long before it gets pulled for the nudity? (bare boobs)

I think they did a great job with this cover. Michael Starr sounded pretty good here.

They don't make me laugh like they used to but they are still a fun band. Seeing them for the 4th time next month. It'll be a fun night guaranteed.

Curious to see what this next album will be like. Wondering if they are running out of steam. We'll see I guess.

I can totally see your side of things, Metalboy! And perhaps I had a hankering for some Steel Panther after not having seen/listened to them in a while. Like I said previously, small does do it for me. But they do make me smile.

I guess I was blinded by the nudity, because I had no idea that, in addition to Zander, the video also features cameos by Paris Jackson (Jacko's daughter) and Bobbie Brown. So I went back for a second take and, yup, sure enough.

I don't know why, crued, but your comment made me laugh. You sounded sounded concerned. And nice to see a post from Rita. Enjoy the show.

EDIT: "doses," not "does." And my apologies for the extra "sounded." Must be an echo.

Good eye, HIM! Now THAT is some good METAL Detection work to rival THAT of one Mr. Ace Steele.

Clever nod to Hair Metal as an institution by bringing back Bobby Brown. Also, nice to see Paris Jackson working though, if you'll notice, she didn't stick around for any of the group shots (and why should she considering she's worth over $100,000,000!).

I am a not a fan but I actually liked it - I had forgotten this Cheap Trick gem and as soon as the riff hit I couldn't help compare to talk dirty to me - Nice launch to a Monday morning.
