GnR Reunion: No Steven, No Izzy
Guns n' Roses played an intimate show at the Troubadour last night. The big speculation was who would be on drums and would Izzy show up. Steven Adler wasn't behind the kit - that went to Frank Ferrer. Izzy wasn't at the show and neither was Matt Sorum.
Here's the setlist from last night:
It's So Easy
Mr. Brownstone
Chinese Democracy
Welcome To The Jungle
Double Talking Jive
Live And Let Die
Rocket Queen
You Could be Mine
The Godfather Theme / Sweet Child O' Mine
New Rose
Better
Knockin' On Heaven's Door
My Michelle
Nightrain
The Seeker
Paradise City
I'm still holding out hope that Adler and Izzy will show up in Las Vegas next weekend!

Still don't get why they didn't jump through hoops to get Izzy and/or Gilby plus Adler and/or Sorum. I get Adler is a pain in the a*s but it would have been cool for the fans. Maybe it could still happen.
Since Rockers are generally stuck in High School mentally, one can see where an ability to look at the situation from the fans perspective. Obviously a combo of ego, money and a general lack of understanding of why artistic integrity out weighs all of those aspects is the price we pay to get Axl and Slash back in the ring.
Let's hope we get a new album after this!
p.s. So frickin' cool they played "New Rose", their cover of The Damned. I wonder if The Damned will have Gn'R on stage or vice-versa when their both playing Coachella in a couple of weeks. THAT would be SO large!
I'm really happy for those that went last night that it was such a big deal for them,
As I think back to the last time I saw Gn'R at the Troub (on the same bill w/ Kix) and I recall the smattering of a crowd that was there, it's cool to see that real rock n' roll, in whatever form can still fill a club like that & make some excitement. I wonder if any of the old school West Hollywood Sheriff's who used to arrest the guys in the old days, were still on the force doing crowd control & thinking "Oh, THEM again..." ;)
I like to support those who are looking up. I remember quite distinctly, one of my mentors saying to me about David Lee Roth and his lyric in ATAL, "There I stood and looked down"...and the mentor said, "wouldn't it be nice to lend a hand and bring those people up".
Been there, done that...and oh yeah...still doing it. High school mentality? axl's fat ass!
"Raising X-rated kids in a PG society".
Thank god for Van Halen.
However, I am nostalgic, enjoyed and am jealous of the 400 people in attendance last night. Looked special. That being said, I will NOT pay bucku dolores to hang out with 80,000 "40 somethings" people with their 13 year old kid in tow saying how great they are. They are NOT great anymore. I will instead pay $22 and see LA GUNS & Faster Pussycat hungry for their paycheck amidst people who have ALWAYS followed and loved the music. That's a great rock n roll show in 2016.
Wanna show your kid GNR? The Ritz show from MTV 1986 on VHS. Raw, pure, natural.
BTW I hate Axl's "bozo the clown nose" red mic foam. Always have.
Peace!

So it wasn't a jab at Adler; at the time, if anyone, it would have been Slash. Even then, it wasn't.
