Motley Crue To Release 'The End' Box Set
We all knew this was coming. Motley Crue will release a box set called The End on November 25. The set will cover the band's 35 years, include six LPs, a hardcover photobook, and live CD/DVD of the band's final show in Los Angeles at the end of 2015.
You'll also get autographed lithograph photo prints of the band, four Mick Mars guitar picks and a commemorative "Final Tour" VIP laminate pass.
You can preorder the set now. It's a whopping $175 which I think is absolutely insane. I know people love their vinyl, but man. Who is buying this (besides Christian because he collects everything!)

True, the warmth and feel of vinyl is the new fetish (insofar as people are willing to pay more now for the same thing from back in the day). Imagine it: a hipster in a faux-vintage Maiden shirt, listening to this as he ponders what sort of beard wax to buy in between farm-to-table meals. I kid.
But what we want, when is that coming? Stuff from the vault. Rare cuts. Alt. takes. I mean, what are people going to do with these lithographs (autographs are a nice touch)? Frame them? Nothing says "someone is going to file papers" like hanging a Mick Mars photo over the mantle.
I hope this "The End" is only the beginning of something really interesting for Crue fans.
I think this is probably the most hypocritical thing Sixx could have done, given all the smacktalk he does about Gene $immons. This is egotism 10 times bigger than Gene's. from a band that was only 1/3 as big.
I personally don't collect crap. I have my vinyl picture discs from the 80's in my attic. Mint? They are not. Used and a fond memory of simpler days? Absolutely.
If I were a Crüe freak, $175 to me seems reasonable for this package. A decent addition to a guys man cave.
Capitalism is still the way to go people. We choose. Supply and demand. Chill and chuckle. We is got other issues in dis world
"The most hypocritical thing"? In the words of Pinhead: "We have such sights to show you."
To me, that, plus a CD of previously unreleased songs or alternate outtakes, etc. would also be stronger conceptually. Who knows, maybe they're planning on releasing more of that kind of stuff later, a la Zeppelin's "DVD".
Also, they could have done a meticulous repro of the original Leathür version of the first album as Bob suggests, but I always feel like SIXX aims for the LCD (lowest common denominator) while excercising the least amount of effort, with the exception of the release of the "Music To Crash Your Car To" box sets containing tons of previously unreleased tracks, alternate takes, demos and live versions.
p.s. And a hat's off to HIM for his flawless description of the "Metal Hipster" who could very well be buying this thing. AND, very funny, Gary! Hahaha!!!
I remember seeing that original 7" 45 of "Stick to Your Guns" pop up on Ebay a while back to the tune of $350... Don't think I didn't ponder buying it. It was my bank account that said, "NO!" Otherwise, I probably would have gone for it as the picture sleeve is so killer, too!
I do have the original Leathür edition of the first album, all the picture sleeve 45 hits and 5 or 6 large format (4ft X 4ft, one at 6ft X 3 1/2 ft!) official Electra promo posters for most of the classic albums. And the US Festival boot DVD.
As You, Neal, Shawn and HIM have pointed out, SIXX could have gone WAY more esoteric on this in the previously unreleased front and probably sold a helluva lot more... My guess is they're gonna release more and this is the first go at it. Unfortunately, to put it bluntly, it does come off as a bit of a rip-off.
As for the 45, if the sleeve is glossy, it's a bootleg. There were only 100 pressed of the original, which had a semi-matte cover sleeve.
Just curious, did they select an ideal hair height from one of the Leathür releases of "Too FAT For Love" (hahaha!!!, Ace!) for the Electra version or did the art director in charge of that release at Electra have to go back to square one? Hahaha!!!
