Motley Crue To Release 'The End' Box Set

We all knew this was coming. Motley Crue will release a box set called The End on November 25. The set will cover the band's 35 years, include six LPs, a hardcover photobook, and live CD/DVD of the band's final show in Los Angeles at the end of 2015.

You'll also get autographed lithograph photo prints of the band, four Mick Mars guitar picks and a commemorative "Final Tour" VIP laminate pass.

You can preorder the set now. It's a whopping $175 which I think is absolutely insane. I know people love their vinyl, but man. Who is buying this (besides Christian because he collects everything!)

Like Allyson said: you knew this was coming. And this is a treat (I guess) for completists amongst us.

True, the warmth and feel of vinyl is the new fetish (insofar as people are willing to pay more now for the same thing from back in the day). Imagine it: a hipster in a faux-vintage Maiden shirt, listening to this as he ponders what sort of beard wax to buy in between farm-to-table meals. I kid.

But what we want, when is that coming? Stuff from the vault. Rare cuts. Alt. takes. I mean, what are people going to do with these lithographs (autographs are a nice touch)? Frame them? Nothing says "someone is going to file papers" like hanging a Mick Mars photo over the mantle.

I hope this "The End" is only the beginning of something really interesting for Crue fans.

A $20 Blu Ray of the last show, I could understand, but this is just pointless.

I think this is probably the most hypocritical thing Sixx could have done, given all the smacktalk he does about Gene $immons. This is egotism 10 times bigger than Gene's. from a band that was only 1/3 as big.

I don't know why anybody thinks this is outrageous.

I personally don't collect crap. I have my vinyl picture discs from the 80's in my attic. Mint? They are not. Used and a fond memory of simpler days? Absolutely.

If I were a Crüe freak, $175 to me seems reasonable for this package. A decent addition to a guys man cave.

Oh, Ace. Ace. Ace.

"The most hypocritical thing"? In the words of Pinhead: "We have such sights to show you."

Call me crazy - but if I bought each piece individually I would be at $120 to $150 for the CD's and Vinyl - My CD copies are nearly destroyed from years of mishandling and my kids when they were at home. So I am actually considering the purchase just to get caught back up fresh with my collection of well used music- The DVD would round it out. I expected something along these lines but I agree it would be so much better with outtakes, demo's and one off covers, oh and a copy of the US festival performance for added value.

I wonder which mix of TFFL will be on the vinyl. If it's the original Leathur Records one, this would make the set much more valuable. Him, I hear ya, a collection of rarities would be awesome. We know they're out there because there is a very nice comprehensive 5-CD set floating around the 'Net that was pains takingly put together by not only a serious crue fan, but also someone who must have inside access to their tapes. Although I have it, I would be willing to pay for an official release of this stuff.

How many damn box sets/greatest hits can a band sell, anyway? Ludicrous!

This is akin to squeezing a lemon on August 1st after it sat outside in Death Valley for all of July.....

Jesus Christ, at least include MC94 and Generation Swine on vinyl for some incentive.

Yeah, I hear you guys... Sure, it's cool having slavishly executed mint reproductions of those albums and a blu-ray of their last concert but like Shawn said, why not also have the US Festival show also included as I would guess they could get their hands on much better quality video than what's been pirated. The bootleg DVD of that show I've got is good but it could be so much better with the right source tapes.

To me, that, plus a CD of previously unreleased songs or alternate outtakes, etc. would also be stronger conceptually. Who knows, maybe they're planning on releasing more of that kind of stuff later, a la Zeppelin's "DVD".

Also, they could have done a meticulous repro of the original Leathür version of the first album as Bob suggests, but I always feel like SIXX aims for the LCD (lowest common denominator) while excercising the least amount of effort, with the exception of the release of the "Music To Crash Your Car To" box sets containing tons of previously unreleased tracks, alternate takes, demos and live versions.

p.s. And a hat's off to HIM for his flawless description of the "Metal Hipster" who could very well be buying this thing. AND, very funny, Gary! Hahaha!!!

Metalboy!, my good sir! the Music to crash Your car to sets were indeed awesome, but even they weren't complete. Notable omitions include Nobody Knows What It's Like to Be Lonely, and the original 7 inch version of Stick to Your Guns which is completely different than the version recorded for the Leathur release of TFFL. those two gems appear in pristine sound in the 5-Cd set that I mentioned in my previous comment. I dare not speak its name since it's not an official release.

I will wait for the inevitable release of the last concert on Blu Ray (as has been previously mentioned). That will be a nice add to my concert collection! There is probably an audience for this box set, but I'll pass.

I think I'll wait on the $20 Blu Ray .. the rest is pointless as most have said ... I would love to have seen them really dig deep for the box set and release so archival footage from all years including 94 through 95 ...

Excellent info, Bob...

I remember seeing that original 7" 45 of "Stick to Your Guns" pop up on Ebay a while back to the tune of $350... Don't think I didn't ponder buying it. It was my bank account that said, "NO!" Otherwise, I probably would have gone for it as the picture sleeve is so killer, too!

I do have the original Leathür edition of the first album, all the picture sleeve 45 hits and 5 or 6 large format (4ft X 4ft, one at 6ft X 3 1/2 ft!) official Electra promo posters for most of the classic albums. And the US Festival boot DVD.

As You, Neal, Shawn and HIM have pointed out, SIXX could have gone WAY more esoteric on this in the previously unreleased front and probably sold a helluva lot more... My guess is they're gonna release more and this is the first go at it. Unfortunately, to put it bluntly, it does come off as a bit of a rip-off.

$350 for the original "Toast Of The Town" 45? I have a handful of them I'll gladly part with at that price.. & all 4 Leathur pressings of Too Fat For Love.. (each has different photo differences from the different heights of Vince's airbrushed hair & Mick's animated face, to totally different photos of Sixx on the different photo insert. )

As for the 45, if the sleeve is glossy, it's a bootleg. There were only 100 pressed of the original, which had a semi-matte cover sleeve.

WOW, Ace! That's quite a treasure trove. Please hold onto them 'til I strike it rich, so we can enter into serious negotiations, which could happen sooner than if I win the lottery, believe it or not!

Just curious, did they select an ideal hair height from one of the Leathür releases of "Too FAT For Love" (hahaha!!!, Ace!) for the Electra version or did the art director in charge of that release at Electra have to go back to square one? Hahaha!!!

Another box set and greatest hits??? No thanks, I'll just finish my vinyl collection individually and wait for the DVD. I'll also wait for the DVD of Corabi doing the 94 album live. It'd been cool if they included all their unreleased and unheard stuff with this instead and included a final tour live cd and ep of new songs, much bigger market for that than rereleases.

Let's think about it... As we discussed here a couple of years ago, where they really missed out was not putting out one final album of new material. That would have been going out on a high note, instead of their retirement being, let's be honest here, a little bit of a yawner.
