Steel Panther And A 'Rob' Roast: A Perfect Combo
Today's post is from our friend HIM.
Many readers of BBG! are familiar with one of my oft-voiced complaints: the use of metal music in ways that make little to no sense. The Crue and Kia? Halford and mini-vans? AC/DC and strip-mall, mega-chain steaks? Ugh. But something magical happened on September 5th. “The Comedy Central Roast of Rob Lowe.” Who supplied the music that started and end the show? None other than Steel Panther, with their perfectly placed “The Burden of Being Wonderful” off of 2014’s All You Can Eat (see the original video):
The emcee was a surprisingly on-point David Spade, featuring a magnificently updated set of locks (or a “system” as it is called in the industry), and a generally well-selected set of roasters (an issue during recent roasts). Some stand-outs included English comedian Jimmy Carr, musician Jewel, athlete Peyton Manning, and former Daily Show correspondent Rob Riggle. The low-point? Ann Coulter. Not because of her politics, but because of the timing of her jokes and the audience’s resistance to even the funny lines that she occasionally landed. An odd choice, in an otherwise solid roast.
To get a sense of the tone, wander over to the highlights on Comedy Central.
But be forewarned: this is roasting as roasting should be done. Jokes ranged from Lowe’s passion for the young (girls) to a roaster’s dad’s death on 9/11. Consider that a trigger warning. But also consider this one of the more ‘metal’ of recent roasts. And picking Steel Panther was a perfect choice.

The last time I saw Steel Panther was when they opened for Priest at the Hard Rock in Orlando, (unfortunately, I've been forced to see them like 4 times since they sure do make the rounds as an opener), I literally watched their whole overrought and tired performance stone faced for the entire 45 minutes (which seemed like 4 hours).
I am sorry I missed the Rob Lowe roast, though. I'm curious, HIM... Did anyone broach the whole underage sex thing that happened to him a while back? Just curious as I'm constantly fascinated by the "Hollywood Babylon" kinda stuff that happens to the L.A. crowd.
I get people not liking Steel Panther, have admitted as much previously. But my point here was a bit more focused: that song fit so well with a roast of Rob Lowe. It was tailor-made for the occasion.
