Warrant Debut 'Perfect'

New music Sunday! Turns out, Warrant has new music for us. The song is called "Perfect" and it's from the upcoming album Louder, Harder, Faster.
I dig it a lot. I listed to this again this morning while having my coffee and contemplating life, as you do.

'Utraphobic' & 'Belly To Belly' are way more Warrant sounding than this drudge!
It's not even the change in singers (even though this dude's voice is as boring as Miles Kennedy)!
They sound like a Night Ranger tribute band trying to write their own songs, just sad!
:(
Robert Mason and the rest of Warrant are doing what they do, which is making music and touring. Those seem to be the requirements for a functioning band. Lane, alas, is not doing anything. And that is a tragic, tragic, fact.
In the world of music (not just metal) the search for "true and authentic" is as foolhardy as the search for El Dorado. Where are those bands? I know! I know! In the minds of those who make the determination. Which is fine. I am not slagging on you, Bkallday. And I am not slagging on the rest of you either. Not "sounding like Warrant" is code for not "involving Jani." And that is fine too. I get it. Talented guy. Great writer. Terribly tortured. And, again alas, dead. I supect they, like Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots, would prefer to have their friends and colleagues back, healthy and focused, or at least messed up and functioning. But there is no Pet Cemetery for addicts who cut their lives short. And that is not a slam on addiction, nor is it a wildly praise-worthy shout out to bands that choose to carry on once a member passes. Just an observation.
So what would you have Warrant do? Change their name? To what? "Hi, Cleveland. We are Subpoena, formerly known as Warrant, and formerly featuring a lead singer named Jani Lane. Here is a song we know you know if you know who we were. And we are here to rock you!!!" In this market, given this type of music, do you think that would work?
And then you get into the "how much" game. How much of the original (or classic, depending on the day) band do you need to keep the brand alive? One or two? A specific person? The mind explodes in thinking about the repercussions our whims might have on fully functioning, and seemingly happy, bands. Skid Row become Tin Pan Alley; Deep Purple becomes Mauve; Great White becomes Hammerhead; and so on.
Thing is, we pick out spots based on our preferences. Personally, I think Quiet Riot should call it a day (said so a few weeks ago). But who am I? Nobody. So long as it is fun and viable, more power to them and any other band who wants to carry on and finds a few people willing to listen.
