The Craft Beer Craze Continues With Def Leppard

Def Leppard will launch their very first beer later this month. The Brits will team up with Seattle’s Elysian Brewing Company. Def Leppard Pale Comes out May 23. I hope this makes it way to Ohio. I would love to try it!

Well, Elysian does make some good beers. So there is that.

But this trend seems strained to me in terms of the publicity it generates. And that name? Beyond an epic fail in its lack of creativity, save for the fact that they were pale English lads back in the day.

No Pour Some Porter on Me? No Bludgeon-Drinkola Stout? No Armageddon It IPA?

What's next? Gene Simmons being a spokesperson for a marijuana company? Oh wait.

“Photograph” would be more poetic ...

“All I’ve got is a photograph. You’ve gone straight to my head.”

Hey, where’s “Brett Michaels’ Pale Ale” which would be produced by Pabst and taste like ... um ... well, you know...

the craft beer thing has really gotten out of hand. Ironically, it's one of the reasons why I don't drink nearly as much beer as I used to. craft beer is huge in San Diego, so huge that the market is totally over saturated, and some of the craft breweries are either being gobbled up by big companies, or closing. San Diego craft breweries are lousy with hipsters, and way too much reggae. It's almost like Def Leppard jumped on a trend that might be at the very beginning of its downward turn. Him, you hit the nail on the head about $immons. given his very vocal anti drug stance, by getting involved with a Cannabis company, he has proven that, for him, the all mighty dollar rules all. Once federal Cannabis prohibition ends in America, Cannabis will be the next craft beer. Van Halen could come out with an Indica strain called "When Kush comes to Shove." Hiyooooo!!!

@Bob/Metalboy you made me laugh Thank You! - On a side note has anyone here ever tried Iron Maiden's Trooper beer?

Shawn, are you going to see Poison in KC on May 25th?

Trooper beer is all right, but nothing special. And it certainly isn't worth the price ($6 a pint), beyond one time so I could have a souvenir bottle.

Anyone seen the trailer for the new Queen movie? Might be worth going to see.

Agree with Gogmagog on the IM beer. And also should have said that some, I repeat _some_, of these ventures make sense. But not many.

Oh, Metalboy!, how about "Me and My Wine Coolers"? I bet that would be a big hit with DL's demographic!

@Bob. LMAO I'm thinking some old ZZ Top: "'Lord take me downtown,I'm just lookin' for some Kush"

@Him Ditto!! How about old school Lep and we'll cove the light beer: On through the Light (and straight to the urinal) 😂😂

@Shawn. I haven't. Not a fan of craft beer. I'm. More of a Miller Lite guy (if I drank craft, I'd be like 400 lb instead of the dad bodded 225 I currently am) 😂😂😂😂

Hahaha!!!, Funny Gary! You’re killin’ me, as usual... HIM and Bob, as well! And the Comments of Shawn, Badland, Gogmagog and Oper8n, keepin’ the ROCK alive!

Shawn, I once got drunk on Iron Maiden Trooper Ale because this British dude who owns an English Pub around the corner from me is good friends with Bruce Dickinson, who sends him the stuff by the case load (actually, cases load!). It’s actually not bad.

And, Gogmagog, it’s definitely worth it for the bottle as a souvenir. It’s got one of the coolest labels out there. I still wanna try Mustaine’s brew, as well, just for the bottle alone. I had one in my hand, ‘til this chick decided to Indian give it from me. Needless to say, I had to jettison her for that!

I have noticed that this is an odd kind of trend, especially in the metal/rock world.
I think its a pretty cool marketing thing though, as long as it's a quality product. I know Mastodon and Megadeth have done it and I've heard they were pretty good. The only one I've tried is Iron Maidens and it is actually pretty good, and like Metalboy! Says it's got one of the coolest labels.
