My Favorite Super Bowl Halftime Show Ever!
Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 12:01AM
I hope Tom Brady and the Patriots lose tonight!
Anyway, here's my favorite Super Bowl halftime show of all time: 2001, featuring Aerosmith, Britney Spears, N'Sync and Mary J. Blige. Start watching at the six minute mark! In 2001 I was a senior in college (I graduated in three years *humblebrag*) and I remember watching this with my parents before heading back to campus. I still really want that shirt Britney is wearing.

And kudos to you Allyson. I would brag about that. Three years for a degree is no easy feat.
Enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday everyone!
I also loved Prince, and Lady GaGa was pretty awesome.
Next year Metallica or Foo Fighters please!!!
Aerosmith & Brittany! Mega best Super Bowl Half Time Show!
And GaGa a close second for me!
Contemplating this caused me to research the list of all halftime shows.
It’s hard to conceive, given how HUGE the stars and productions have been in recent memory that when it all started in 1967, the halftime show was a complete joke until 1993, with the exception of Ella Fitzgerald somewhere along the line.
What happened is in 1992, FUX stole 22 million viewers at halftime to watch a special episode of “In Living Color”.
That woke everyone’s as*ses up at NBC and the NFL to get Michael Jackson in what has been claimed to be one of the most widely viewed television events of all time, forever changing the history of Superbowl Halftime Shows. Just think of what incredible shows we could have seen all those years before had NBC and the NFL woken up sooner!
Other shows of note:
1996: Diana Ross
1997: The Blues Brothers, James Brown, ZZ Top
2002: U2 (not my cup of tea but a sound choice given the time)
2004: Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Kid Rock (not my thing but the “nip slip” was probably the best thing to happen to the Midwest culturally).
2005: Paul McCartney (should have been huge but wound up being one of the biggest half time snorefests. Just think of who he could have had on stage to make a great Rock & Roll moment).
2006: Rolling Stones (another one that could have been huge but somehow fell flat. Part of the problem may have been the program being too short with poor song selection!).
2007: Prince (epic but could you imagine this taking place when “Purple Rain” was at the top of the charts?)
2009: Bruce Springsteen (too little too late and needed other stars)
2010: The Who (Another one that should have happened in the 80’s. One of the greatest bands of all time but limping along at this point. The performance fell flat, eliciting nary a yawn from the audience.)
2011: Black Eyed Peas with Slash. (Obviously, huge for us because of Fergie’s and Slash’s rendition of “Sweet Child of Mine”)
2012: Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Cee Lo Green (Again, too little, too late! Just imagine Madonna in the late 80’s or early 90’s?)
2013: Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child (Mega for the demographic.)
2014: Katy Perry (incredible props!)
2017: Lady GaGa (Probably the closest to the level of the Aerosmith show)
p.s. Go Rams!
as for the halftime show, gotta go with left shark.
