This Animal Drive Cover Rocks

Animal Drive rocks. Their covers EP is called Back to the Roots and they've done a version of Skid Row's "Monkey Business." The album is on Frontiers.

My goodness. Nothing is ever going to top the original, but this is a close second. Vocalist Dino Jelusic has a set of pipes, that's for sure. (You might know the name from Trans-Siberian Orchestra). Animal Drive are from Croatia. The band has one album out already called Bite! and are working on a follow-up now.

I was playing this "Monkey Business" cover and Eric was across the room. I didn't say anything. After it was done I said, "It's crazy how good that cover is!" and he said, "That wasn't Skid Row?!" So yeah. It's good.

Purchase Bite! here!

Completely KILLER cover and I look forward to hearing the rest of “Back To The Roots” due out in April, as well as their soon to be in the works new forthcoming album. Last year’s album, “Bite”, is also one of the more notable releases of 2018.

The PR on their Facebook page says the EP also contains a fully Metalized cover of Roxette’s “You’ve Got The Look” as well as Warrant’s “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” and Whitesnake’s Judgement Day” getting the Animal Drive treatment.

Needless to say, the Roxette cover should be quite amusing as yet another insipid pop song getting Metalized, saving it from the crap heap and resurrecting it to the top of the Metal scrap heap!

p.s. Maybe covering Skid Row is a continuing trend as you may recall the otherwise crappy Asking Alexandria’s stellar renditions of Skid Row’s “Youth Gone Wild” and “18 and Life”. It should be said Animal Drive and Asking Alexandria share more in common than their Skid Row covers. They also have two of the stupidest names in ROCK with Asking Alexandria’s being a lot more ridiculous than Animal Drive’s!

Not a bad lil band, Allyson. I had never heard of these guys.

Always appreciate well done covers of songs that don't get covered very often.

Pretty spot-on cover. Doesn't really add much (and that is okay). Singer seems to have a bit of a deeper voice and a couple of vocal 'tells' that betray his accent. But certainly decent.

In reference to a recent post: this is one of those classic-adjacent/"If you like X, you might like Y" bands that Frontiers adds to their roster (again, primarily European). I wonder about this business model. But nice that a band like this can get some ears listening to them. No harm there.

I thought their debut album Bite! was pretty strong overall, one of my favorites from last year actually.
Nothing will ever come close to the original song, it had so much swagger and attitude that no cover could truly do it justice, with that being said this was pretty good. Not amazing, nothing groundbreaking, just a cool cover. Obviously a band just playing homage to what I assume was an influential band on them.
Anyways I think these guys are a cool band, I'm excited to see what they do in the future.

Yeah, I have “Bite” in my Honorable Mentions on my “Best of 2018” list, DJ.

And though their version of “Monkey Business” is pretty impressive, though not quite as good as the original, I’ll still take it and the rest of their stuff, pinch harmonics (haha!!, Düed!) and all, over Asking Alexandria, despite the unintentional battle for “Dummest Name In Modern Hard Rock History”!

Bring Me the Horizon, Metalboy! I will pay a Nickelback for it!

Okay, HIM, you got me there, Bring Me The Horizon and Nickelback certainly do rival Animal Drive but I still contend Asking Alexandria is in a league of it’s own.

FYI, I just took a listen to Bring Me The Horizon’s song, “Heavy Metal”, not having heard or heard of them before. Man, talk about deceptive packaging, that song is anything but “Heavy Metal”.

Also, I seem to recall a BBG! Comments thread, maybe on Asking Alexandria’s Skid Row covers, actually, where the topic turned to dumb band names. As I recall, several Commentors listed more than a few.

Certainly, the names we just mentioned should be included on the list as should All About Eve, Avenged Sevenfold and Good Charlotte.

There are many others so we all know where this could lead - basically a one way ticket on the express to Stupidville. Now wait, there’s a band name just beckoning to get snatched up!
