Dirty Honey Covers 'Last Child'

Los Angeles-based Dirty Honey is probably the next big thing. I say this because they've already been asked to do an Amazon Original interview and cover track. Which cover? Aerosmith's "Last Child." The song is Aerosmith's second best track, just behind "Nobody's Fault." It is Brad Whitford's masterpiece.

The Dirty Honey cover is really freaking good. You can catch the Amazon Original interview below. And listen to the track here: Last Child (Amazon Original)

I'll second Seasons of Wither. That's a legendary track that has not gotten it's due. I'll have to rifle through my Aerosmith collection to comprise a proper top 10.

Going to see Dirty Honey next Tuesday. I'll give you a first hand account of their live show. From what I've seen it should be good.

Wow, how crappy is this of Aerosmith to do to a bandmate.

AGGGGHHHH MB "but these go to 11" greatest line of all time.. Add Kings and Queens as an honorable mention - you have a perfect list from a great band and Jeff there has to be more to the story on Joey that no one is sharing. If its just about his health I am guessing their may be a sobriety issue. But to make him audition is INSULTING.

I can’t believe you mentioned “Kings and Queens” as I almost put that on the list.

I’ve always thought of that as one of their best yet my best friend and ex-lead guitarist has always disliked it for a reason I’ve yet to discern.

But WTH! Why should I care what he thinks!

p.s. I’ve heard that Kramer is a downright mean, nasty pr*ck of an SOB. Still, I’m willing to overlook that but do hope he gets the help he needs to keep the classic line-up in tact. The rest of the boys better be careful what they wish for because of the “X-Factor”, that whole “6th Man” thing to their sound that could go away if they dare replace the bast*rd!

Metalboy! and Jeff, perhaps Kramer needs to switch to decaf and/or switch the name of his Rockin' and Roastin' coffee brand to just, sigh, Roastin'. Reading the articles, it suggests--as always--that there is a lot more to the story. Imagine playing to a click track, and then submitting it to the band for their approval!?!? Sounds like there is drama in a camp that is known for drama. Interested to see how this turns out.

First Joyous Wolf cover "Mississippi Queen" well. Now Dirty Honey honor Aerosmith with a cover, also done well. Nice to see new bands paying their dues and tipping their caps to their influences. Thing is, both covers hug fairly close to the originals, so they are homages and not reimaginings. Which is fine for me, so long as it does the original justice. In both cases, it does. They would be a great one-two punch opening for a legacy act or touring together in smaller clubs.

JCD, please post your review (or submit it to Allyson for consideration). I would love to see Dirty Honey. Joyous Wolf were great with Deep Purple. Perhaps a touch too spastic on stage (heck, they are young and the singer was doing stage moves that would cripple DLR nowadays). But they stuck around and chatted up fans. They also sounded great.

Now if only Greta Van Susteren could muster the courage to do something as good as either of these bands, or acknowledge their influences (who could those be?) with a kick ass cover. I guess we will have to wait until the levee breaks for that to happen. But what do I know? I come from the land of the ice and snow.

HIM!!! Why do you bust on Greta Van Fleet so hard, man?! They are incredible!!!

The band may wear their influences (or, rather “influence”) on their sleeves but their tunes are far more musically adventurous than either Dirty Honey or Joyous Wolf, as much as I love those bands.

And if you go on YouTube you can find GVF doing an incredible covers of Led Zeppelin‘s “Whole Lotta Love” AND “Stairway to Heaven”!

Not that you will read this, Metalboy!, but I will respond: they seem like entitled twits to me.

Truth be told, I do enjoy their sound. But their "aura" is all wrong. They traffic in late-70's nostalgia. Fine. They affect. Great. But they seem to think turning on youngsters to an old sound makes them something new. They don't seem hungry. Those other two bands do away with the artifice (to a degree) and just get down to rocking.

Everything is a copy of a copy. I get that too. I just wish Fleet seemed a bit more hungry . . . and humble. And, now that we are on the subject, where are Fleet these days? You can only ride so much hype before you start to run on fumes. Meanwhile, those other two bands are trying to build something bit by bit.

In sum, I wish Fleet, Honey, and Wolf nothing but the best. They all rock. I just choose to support bands that seem to want it.
