'Somewhere Over The Rainbow Bar and Grill'

David Lee Roth has new music. The track, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow Bar and Grill" was released yesterday. I have to say, listening to the song really made me smile. The lyrics are kind of like a walk down memory lane for Dave's early musician days. I'm sure he is feeling extra nostalgic with the recent loss of Eddie Van Halen.

Good on you Dave. Nice watercolor, nice song. Great sentiment.

The song was written 5 years ago and features John5 on guitar. Supposedly there is an entire album worth of material from these sessions that will eventually be released and is rumored to have a more rocking edge similar to Eat 'em and Smile.

This is classic DLR, devotion and promotion.

People slagged him for his comments right after EVH died. I understood them to be a mix of shock and recognition. This adds a bit of nuance to the reply. I think it well served and deserved.

The song sounds like a demo. But it hints at the same sort of stuff he was releasing solo before the VH reunion. I'd welcome a chance to hear other tracks. The pairing of DLR and J5 worked before. I have to assume it still works (or worked). No, it ain't VH. But DLR was rolling about and searching for different sounds after his brief bit of stardom as a solo artist. He still is.

DLR will never get his 'voice' back. But he still has a 'sound'. We are all lucky that that sound remains. And I think his nods to EVH are respectful, and loving. He remembers the magic and knows that--push, pull, or tug--his life is forever entwined with the magic that he made with three other guys.
