Louder Than Life Festival Canceled

Here's another one: Louder Than Life, a massive fest set for the end of September in Louisville, Kentucky is now officially canceled due to COVID-19. Metallica and Tool were set to headline. Notice in the post announcing the cancellation the line about "conforming to the advice of health officials." Click to read cancellation FAQs if you are a ticketholder to this event.

Big crowds, concerts and fests are not happening this summer. I still do not know how Disneyland or Disney World plan to open. Kings Island is a theme park near me and I am a season pass holder. Cedar Fair is the parent company of Kings Island and a slew of other parks, including Cedar Point. Passholders recently received emails that our passes would be good through 2021. To me that means officials do not see much - if any - of a summer operating season. Money talks and it will be interesting to see some folks argue for places like Disney World to open when rock festivals and big events like The Stadium Tour should not - especially when the shows are outside.

Bummer concert news all around. But I appreciate that DWP was proactive and made sure that fans were made whole sooner rather than later. I also hope that the people working for DWP are being looked after right now (no less the staff that work for all of these bands, big and small).

Bkallday, question (and I apologize if you have mentioned this before): were you going or have you gone? If you have been, what is your take on this event? I have been to other DWP events (Houston Open Air and Aftershock). Just curious if it is well run and something I should consider in the future.

Way too early of a call

As someone who lives for and loves live music (like I'm sure many on this site), this is such a crappy time .... It's basically a wasted year. Such a shame.

And I just hope many of the tribute bands I love that play in Louisville will survive the downturn.

I get where you are coming from, Jeff (at least, I think I do). But with so many moving parts and so much up in the air right now, I still think they did the right thing. Just my opinion. But I can understand your POV as well.

Steverox, have you been to this festival before? Just curious.

I’ve been to 2 of the 3 they’ve had. They’re awesome and it seems to be getting bigger every yr, or it did at least. 40,000 last yr was tops for the wkend, with GNR. I liked the old location more though, more grass and chill area. I figured it would happen though. Sucks but 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks for the response, Bkallday. Appreciate it.

Aftershock tried changing venues and it did not work at all. Discovery Park just seems to be the best place to host that event. Sounds like it is a good time, even if the venue change sticks. Might consider it. I love trying out new festivals in new areas. And I have never been to Kentucky. As much as we mash fingers at each other, I would love to visit the state some time. Thanks again. Hope you are well.
