'You're To Blame' - Mammoth WVH Single

Wolfgang Van Halen is sharing his second single. It is called "You're To Blame" and it will be on the debut release from Mammoth WVH. Wolf will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight to perform one of his songs. This will be his band's first television performance.

I do quite like "You're To Blame" - it reminds me of something but I can't quite put my finger on it. Perhaps Our Lady Peace during the debut Naveed era? Coincidentally, Our Lady Peace opened for Van Halen during the Balance tour. At any rate, there is definitely a throwback alternative vibe to Wolf's music. His debut comes out in July and I am excited for it.

I caught a bit of their performance on Kimmel last night. Solid sounding. Nice and tight performance. The kid looked a bit nervous, but pulled it off. Then again, who wouldn't be nervous?

And I do love the cover of the album. Reminds me of some of the Aubrey Powell-designed stuff from Hipgnosis back in the late 70s (no slam on Thorgerson, mind you). But perhaps it is just the guy in the suit rattling my remaining neurons.

Still can't get into them though. Not really sure why. The last song reminded me of the Gin Blossoms. I think it might be his singing (which is just fine). The start of this song sounded like it could be RHCP circa, well, whenever. And I think that is perhaps why I am not digging it. I am not a big fan of 90s rock. Just a preference (yes, yes, I know that RJCP were a better band in the 80s, but I hope you can follow my logic).

But I can respect the talent involved, no less the pedigree. Under a ton of ridiculous pressure and trolling, no less the death of this father, he is producing good-sounding music. I wish him the best.
