Steve Perry To Release 'The Season' This November

I can't believe it is already the middle of September. Before you know it, we will be carving pumpkins for Halloween and planning menus for Thanksgiving... and then, Christmas. Most here know I am no real fan of Christmas music, but this news made me perk up a little: Steve Perry will release a holiday covers album called The Season.

Steve Perry, best known for his time in Journey, will release his first ever holiday record November 5. I am not sure who exactly the target audience is for this, but my mom will love it. She loves Steve Perry's voice, classic Journey and also Christmas music.

Want a sample? The second tweet has a little snippet of the album.

Pumpkin Spice all around! Xmas display already up at Home Depot...wow. I'll check out Steve's album closer to time-I hope his voice and style add it to my rotation.

I love Christmas music during the holidays. I hope this one is worth adding to the rotation when the time comes.

I must say, I am not a fan of Steve Perry's solo material as I find it a bit mellow/boring for my tastes. But I love his Journey stuff.

His voice has changed over the years, but it's nice to see him making music again, after a long time away.

Nice to see you posting, Rita! And you hit on something: this sort of thing (if it is your sort of thing) fits his vocals these days. You can still hear that Journey sound. But, let's face it, he can't do the stuff he did back in the day. And, to be fair, he doesn't want to do so (as much as Mr. Schon pecks and pokes at him to do so). Personally, I liked some of his earlier solo stuff. And I also like his recent release in limited does. But the backstory behind his return to music is truly inspiring.

I think we are lucky that he is recording again. Christmas music? Not my cup of eggnog (and I HATE eggnog). But you do you. Perry? Timeless vocalist. We who love AOR owe that man a lot . . . and he had to put up with Schon. So, even if you don't dig Perry, he deserves some serious props!
