Def Leppard Announces New Book
I tried to buy a signed, special edition copy but they were all sold out by the time I got to the band's website. I think the photos look really interesting - the book seems thick and should include some stories we've never heard before. Plus, this will look cool on my coffee table.

I have a variety of these sorts of coffee table books. Some are great and some are not. Some give you credit in the notes (a bit of a hit and miss thing, given that you are essentially helping to make sure the book gets made). Some others give you perks as a result of previous purchases (the Bill Ward book, which is beautiful, comes to mind). Others aren't worth the price. And still others are like this one: already in the can, so to speak, and limited editions that . . . are . . . going . . . fast! I include in this list the ones that are authorized and those that are not. Because, at this point, photos are to memories what live shows are realities!
Then there are those by the photogs. Popoff, for one, is reasonable and generous about what he puts out (the quality varies, but he is up front and also glad to sign). Weiss? Um. Well. The photos are often good (sometimes great). But he has a brand to build nowadays and he will wring money out of you to get a photo-copied photo with a signature on it (not even the courtesy of an autopen!?!?!).
But visual documentation of a time long since past is a thing I treasure. So, I trade in the best and the worst of the bunch! Again, please give us a review.
Sorta' side-bar: Genesis and Wymers are of varied classes regarding these sorts of publications. Do your homework. Be aware of what you are buying and whether or not it is worth it just because a band you like is listed. In both instances, you will be glad to get what you paid for . . . if you know what you are paying for going in.
