Conquer Divide, 'Santa Tell Me' - New Track

My favorite metalcore ladies Conquer Divide have a new track just in time for the holiday season. It's a cover of the Ariana Grande song "Santa Tell Me." Honestly, I've never heard the song before because I don't know a lot of Ariana Grande music, but I have to say I do like the Conquer Divide version a lot. Everyone knows I don't care much for Christmas tunes, but this one is quite catchy and the band does a lot with three minutes here. What do you think?

You always make me stretch out a bit, Allyson. Thank you for that.

Vixen they are not. Then again, Vixen aren't Vixen anymore. But I digress. I think Conquer Divide didn't do the former for me. The drums sounded, well, odd. And the vocals didn't really sound like they matched the music being played. The initial guitar chug sounded like a choo-choo train.

I guess I have outed myself. I am not a metalcore fan. Fact is, I stopped looking up all these sub-sub-genres. But I wanted to figure out what this one was. Best I could find was that it "is a fusion music genre that combines elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. As with other styles blending metal and hardcore, such as crust punk and grindcore, metalcore is noted for its use of breakdowns, slow, intense passages conducive to moshing. Other defining instrumental qualities include heavy riffs and stop-start rhythm guitar playing." Yeah, I didn't do a lot of research. I went to the beacon of knowledge, Wikipedia.

Crust punk? Sounds itchy, potentially infectious. I think my burr grinder is from Grindcore, or Krups. And I know I have listened to both extreme metal and hardcore punk, but I didn't hear those in this song (knowing, of course, that they are riffing on a Grande . . . which sounds like slang for something else).

Thing is, you do you. Love what you like and let others do the same. I wish Conquer Divide a non-divisive holiday season. with extreme treats and hardcore gifts in their holiday stockings.
