But Do We Need A 'Spinal Tap' Reboot?

This Is Spinal Tap is a great movie. Released all the way back in 1984, the film was pretty revolutionary and so spot-on in its mockery of metal and rock bands.

The new film will be called Spinal Tap II.

This Is Spinal Tap will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival this year to get everyone hyped for the sequel. Rob Reiner is a brilliant director. He knew what he was doing with This Is Spinal Tap. I'm going to try and have hope he knows what he's doing with the sequel too. I would hate to have such a great movie diminished in some way. But hey - the world needs more laughter and the guys in Spinal Tap will hopefully deliver us some fun. Reiner apparently told journalists there might be cameos of famous musicians in the film. I hope so!

Respectfully, Allyson, not really a reboot. Just a sequel, given that the plot centers on them being forced to do another concert after their dead manager's wife threatens to sue them and years of acrimony between the three main members.

But they aren't going to catch lightning in a bottle twice. Hopefully, though, it is still good enough. I mean, "The Majesty of Rock" off of _Break Like the Wind_ (1992) was a good song. But we are talking three decades on . . . and a movie, which is a far different kettle of potato chips. I mean, McKean is 74; ditto Guest; Shearer is 78; and Reiner is 75. Putting aside age, some of the things for which ST is known aren't particularly 'well-liked' in this day and age (by some). So I would hate to see a watered-down version of ST featuring geriatrics doing 'safe' jokes.

That is also my fear about the recent reboot (an actual reboot) of Kids in the Hall. I am approaching that with some trepidation. And, think about it. What would a new version of Little Britain look like, after the majors fell all over themselves apologizing for skits that were of their time if not this one? This is sliding into a digression of sorts, so I will stop now and stay (mainly) in my lane.

RIP Rick Parnell. A funny and eclectic fellow who set up shop in Missoula of all places.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I've never been a fan of the Spinal Tap movie. To me it wasn't very funny and quite annoying at times. I've tried to watch a few times over the years but, nah,,,I can't take it.

Kindred spirits, I guess, Crued. I will get to KitH soon. Other shows are occupying my time at the moment. Yes, Little Britain was great. That old lady knew how to deliver a line! Always had me laughing. For whatever reason, I actually liked some of the less 'blue' segments as well. Bing Gordyn always had me sideways! Not sure why.

I hear you, Jeff. It is an acquired taste. And there are certainly spots where it sags a bit. But the cucumber in tinfoil at the security line is a moment of hilarious bliss! And I always love to remind people that the Stonehenge sequence is a great riff on what happened to Black Sabbath (if only in a much smaller form factor!).
