I'm Ridiculously Excited For 'The Munsters' Movie

We got our very first teaser for The Munsters movie today! The film, written and directed by Rob Zombie, basically melds my love for metal with classic TV sitcoms. Folks are always mystified at my love for classic TV: The Andy Griffith Show, The Munsters, MASH, Gilligan's Island, The Waltons, The Golden Girls, Designing Women, 227... I love them all and so many more.

Will Zombie write songs for the soundtrack? I hope so! The film will be PG and I think it's going to be so fun. It comes out sometime later this year.

“227?” wow, not sure i’ve ever heard anybody giving that show an attaboy.
as for zombie’s munster - i’d love for him to do a pg and an r rated version, just to see the differences.

Careful what you wish for, Allyson. Zombie is notoriously hit or miss when it comes to movies, esp. when he takes 'well-loved' movies and puts his spin on them (yes, I am speaking about the Halloween franchise, which now has little left of it save for a few William Shatner masks in a storage locker somewhere). His directing, like his music, can range from really good to really, really bad. Like many things having to do with sampling and retro, a little goes a long way. And he was lucky he had Sid Haig for as long as he did (RIP).

Stu, you had me laughing! I, too, was a bit caught off guard by Allyson's 'scroll of champions'. MASH (I am a Frank fan primarily, though Winchester had his moments)? Sure. Golden Girls (Blanche in the sheets; Dorothy in the streets)? Heck yeah! Designing Women? Surely you meant The Nanny. right? And The Waltons?!?!? That show was so good-naturedly corn-pone that it made The Beverly Hillbillies look like a Brian De Palma epic! Then again, I did like Buddy on Barnaby Jones. Does that count?

Stu, one more thing: the only difference between the two ratings would be that one would feature Sheri Moon Z. more. So, perhaps, we can both agree to go with the one that does not feature her more. She is many things. And she has skills (a very particular set of them). But she doesn't make for a lot of great movie scenes. Then again, I think she knows the director!

Allyson, obviously I am giving a bit of a tease here. What we count as classic is subjective (see: discussions of metal bands and which lineups count). But, yeah, I hear you. There are some great shows--from several different eras of TV--that still entertain old, and new, fans.

Well, I am off to the Regal Beagle for a couple of drinks!
