'Slippery When Wet' Turns 36

My favorite Bon Jovi album is Slippery When Wet. That landmark release turns 36 today. It's kind of crazy to think back on just how huge of a record Slippery was when it came out. I mean, the album features mega-hits "Livin' On A Prayer" and "Wanted Dead or Alive" - not to mention "You Give Love A Bad Name" and "Never Say Goodbye." Only folks like Adele and Taylor Swift are releasing albums with those kind of chart topping songs these days.

Too bad Bon Jovi wants to disavow their rock roots these days in favor of country music. Or maybe it's just what Jon Bon Jovi likes. Regardless, I'll always be thankful for Slippery When Wet and all the memories.

I think he should lean into the country angle, considering he would be best suited to 'talk singing' these days.

You all know my issues with An Chovi: I give him props for his charitable work, though I cringe at most of his catalog. And the one song--the one song!--I like is off of an album he disavows. So. who knows? Something must be working for him. And he certainly doesn't need to heed to bored prognostications of a fellow who lives in a tent by the overpass.

Side-bar: imagine if he tried to release a retro shirt of the original album cover? Oh, what a circus that would be on the inter-webs!!!

I really like New Jersey. Other than "I'll Be There For You," which is just 5 minutes of cliches and lazy songwriting, I don't think there's a bad song on it, and most of them are quite strong. Having said that, the rest of their catalogue is more misses than hits.

As for JBJ's voice ... it's totally shot. The audience recorded clips of this year's tour that are on YouTube are just brutal to listen to.
