Do We Really Need Another Motley Crue Vegas Residency?

I'm so old I remember when Motley Crue signed a contract to stop touring. Of course, we all basically assumed that was just for show. Naturally, a big payday was offered to "end retirement" and Motley embarked on this summer's Stadium Tour. It was a massive success. Now, the band wants to tour internationally again and do another Las Vegas residency.

I can sort of understand the international tour. The Las Vegas residency seems a bit much so soon after the Stadium Tour. There's such a thing as market saturation. Then again, Def Leppard sure tours a lot and they don't seem to have problems selling tickets. I'll sit out the residency personally.

I hope Mick Mars stays as healthy as possible. You would have to think all those shows are hard on him.

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: No, but . . .

Even longer answer: No, but people will sit there and sing along, acting like it is good fun (and, for them, it probably will be).

Final answer: No, but MC is a machine that runs on a legacy that is well-established and is, at this point, little interested in the idea that running on said thing ruins the same in some small way. And, I guess, who cares? They certainly don't. When you make jokes about 'ending on top' that don't really have a punchline, they you sorta' force yourself into a situation where you have to sell the fake need to be seen. And, I guess, they--the members that own the brand and the others that are salaried employees expected to show up and do what is barely required of them--need to be seen?

Beats retirement, I guess. But, and I circle back a bit, if you 'went out on top' once, now twice, and then a third time, were you even really trying to sell the joke? Nah. You were just trying to sell tickets and merch. So much (again) for a legacy.

KISS called. They copyrighted backing tracks and integrity (or a lack thereof). Simmons wants to speak to Sixx. No worries though. All he wants to say is: "Good job!"
