I mean, Sweet and his band of merry Christians have been slaying it in recent years (even with a share of controversies). Lynch? He seems to just be coasting. He is glad to cash checks for playing a few songs with Don. He is in at least 100 other projects.
And, yes, Frontiers is notorious for cobbling together these sorts of acts, always to be released and almost never to tour. What is the point, really? Well, for the artists it is a check and a chance to play music. For the label, it is a chance to . . . I dunno, let someone play keyboards and mess with the sound? I mean, this must work for Frontiers. But, in terms of grabbing interest, establishing an act, and getting fans involved, Frontiers does little to nothing beyond printing the discs and shipping them out to those who are willing to pay. Actually, that is not true. They also write press releases that are pretty funny. So, you get some music and a giggle. Thank you Frontiers?
I am happy if this helps people like Sweet and Lynch pay the rent, or pay for a new carport. But I don't really know what it does beyond that. Were any of you clamoring for this release? Seriously. Any of you?
Final head trip: swap out Sweet's vocals for Robin McAuley. Or do the same with the latter's last album with the former singer. See my point?
Most notably:
L.A. Guns, “Black Diamonds” (2023)
Chez Kane, “POWERZONE” (2022)
The Defiants, “Drive” (2023)
Inglorious, “Heroine” (2021)
Houston, “Relaunch”, I, II, III (3rd is coming soon in 2023)
… to name but a few.
I am not suggesting that Frontiers doesn't release good music. But I am suggesting that their support of that music, and some of the choices that they make, are really, really questionable.
I think they are providing a lifeline to some older and newer bands. I just don't understand their game plan.
