Metallica Comes To Movie Theatres (Again)

So this is happening: Metallica will bring their massive 72 Seasons world tour to cinemas next month.

The concert  will be live from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX on August 18 and again August 20.

Metallica: M72 World Tour Live From Arlington, TX; A Two Night Event, will feature two nights of  completely different setlists. Metallica won't play a song twice over these two nights, so fans can watch both concerts and get totally different experiences which is kind of cool.

I like when bands don't just perform their biggest hits during concerts. Paying customers are usually there for some deep cuts too.

Everyone on this site knows my take on 'Tallica these days. But, good for them. They serve their buying public. They fill stadiums. People still buy their product.

Only thing about this post that caught my attention was this: "I like when bands don't just perform their biggest hits during concerts. Paying customers are usually there for some deep cuts too." I am not sure that the former and latter comments actually play well together.

Obviously, fans love hearing deep cuts, those songs that passed by others while they stuck with them. But a lot of the buying public strikes me as wanting to hear the greatest hits, regardless of who is playing them, because that is what they are paying the band to do.

Now, to be fair, 'Tallica might be an exception. They have built up an incredible fan base. They should be credited for that. But those paying the big bucks to see AC/DC, GnR, Foreigner, The Eagles, The Scorpions, Def Lep, Motley Crue, etc. (and in no real logical order)? Not so sure.

And consider, as against my general thesis, a band like Iron Maiden. They still fill stadiums, even when they do one tour of the current and one tour of the greatest hits. So, yes, there are exceptions. But, again, are the former and the latter really in sync when it comes to consumers today, esp. considering what it costs to go see bands these days? Not so sure.

Phew. I am beat. I am going to listen to 'Tallica's "Escape" and Maiden's "Reach Out" just so I can cool down. You know, the deep cuts everyone is dying to hear live. Giggle.
