Another Member Of The 'Billion Stream' Club

I've been listening to a lot of Bob Marley lately. Probably because the music just equals summer and good vibes to me.

The other day I saw a post that "Three Little Birds" reached the milestone one billion streams on Spotify. Does that mean anything? Probably just that the song is iconic and awesome. It doesn't really mean a ton in extra royalties because streaming doesn't pay all that much, but it's still an amazing accomplishment.  Honestly, I prefer "You Could Be Loved" from the Marley cannon. It's probably my favorite track of Bob Marley's & The Wailers. It originally appeared on the album Uprising.

"Three Little Birds" appeared on the monumental release Exodus and is typically the Bob Marley song you hear used in commercials and movies and the like.

What have you been listening to this summer?

Allyson - you made me curious, so I looked up what a billion streams pays on Spotify, and the answer is around $4.3 million. So not chump change for sure, especially when you consider there are no physical costs involved in distribution, packaging, etc. Also, if an artist has a billion-streaming song on Spotify, you can also imagine that the song is also making good bank on Apple Music, YouTube, etc.

That said, no one is ever concerned about the billion-stream folks; they are the elite and are cashing in from many different directions. It's everyone else that is getting screwed by the new system.
