That One Time Cinderella Made A Chili Dog Commercial

Reddit reminded me of this gem!

Evidently Pat's Chili Dogs was a sort of Philadelphia institution in the 80s (sadly, no more). Always open and catering to teens and young adults who partied late at night. So how do you sell a chili dog in 1983? By asking Cinderella to perform in your commercial of course. Snappy jingle included!

The YouTube of the commercial is below and it is cool as hell to see Cinderella like this in 1983. Think of it: Pat's was open 24/7 and the members of Cinderella just showed up to rock out and eat junk food. Do air guitar while you wait for your dog!

The commercial ran locally around Philadelphia on MTV and helped Cinderella get on the music channel because they couldn't get played any other way. Plus they got free chili dogs whenever they wanted, too! Win-win for a broke band trying to make it in the Glam heyday.

TRIVIA: Cinderella singer Tom Keifer was a vegetarian at the time of the shoot (maybe he still is, no idea) - so when it was hit turn to bite into a hot dog, he just ate a plain bun.

Record Store Day 2023 Haul

For my Record Store Day celebration, I went to Catacomb Records, near Dayton, Ohio. It's a store that is all Metal, all the time. Yep.

I picked up that Van Halen Live Right Here, Right Now 30th anniversary I wanted... plus two rare Cinderella discs. They are OG year pressings and one is a Japanese press! Photos below and reviews coming soon!

The Best Videos Of 1989 - 'The Last Mile'

"The Last Mile" is on Cinderella's fabulous album Long Cold Winter and it has always been one of my favorites from the band.

The video is special because it is at once a road clip and also behind-the-scene happiness exposé. Yes, in a time when Metal bands were trying to seem both tough and beautiful, Cinderella managed to also show themselves being genuinely happy. The clip for "The Last Mile" is a bunch of live shots interspersed with the band doing normal road things like being on a bus, walking around, hanging out. There's also after-show shots of the band just plain tired. In all these scenes, the members of Cinderella have infectious smiles. You can tell these were not fake for the camera - the band members were honestly happy. They were successful musicians and having fun and making money while doing it. The smiles - layered with the anthemic and catchy riffs of "The Last Mile" - make the clip my final addition of this list of the best videos of 1989.

Also, can I just say that Long Cold Winter was criminally underrated when it came out - and now it should definitely be regarded as one of the best Glam releases of the era? Few albums stack up to its songwriting, themes, guitar solos and pure grit. I said what I said.
