The Cure Announces New Live Album

Are there any fans of The Cure in the house? I'm a casual fan of the band. The Cure will release a new live album next month and I might pick it up. Sometimes I prefer live records to studio releases so I might pick this up. Check it out and happy Saturday!

Sunday Best Recordings is thrilled to announce the December 6th release of The Cure: Bestival Live 2011, a live recording of the iconic bands incredible, career-spanning two and a half hour set performed at this year’s Bestival.

The double album, which is split over two CDs and also available as a digital download is made up of thirty-two Cure classics, including “The Lovecats,” “The Caterpillar,” “Close To Me,” “Friday I’m In Love,” “Lullaby,” “The Hungry Ghost,” “The End Of The World,” “Just Like Heaven,” “Grinding Halt,” “Jumping Someone Else's Train” and “Boys Don’t Cry.”

Of the live album, Robert Smith of The Cure says “We had such a great time in the Isle of Wight at Bestival that we wanted to release this show as a way of thanking fans and islanders alike. Bestival is the best!”

All profits from the sale of this album will go to the Isle of Wight Youth Trust (Reg Charity No: 1087163). The Isle of Wight Youth Trust is a charitable, independent and professional organization offering counseling, advice, information and support services to young people aged 25 and under on the Isle of Wight (the home of Bestival) and, in some cases, their parents or carers. The Youth Trust has been working on the Isle of Wight for 27 years and has made a positive input to the wellbeing of people locally. www.iowyouthtrust.co.uk

VH1 Classic Celebrates National Metal Day

Happy National Metal Day (according to cable network VH1). Apparently today's date: 11/11/11 seemed overtly metal to some VH1 brass, thus bestowing the special honor on us all this Friday. To celebrate my first National Metal Day, I'm boarding a jet plane and heading south to Florida to get ready for ShipRocked. The cruise leaves Monday but I've got lots of work to do in Florida before the fun can really begin.

But back to Metal Day. So VH1 Classic is airing all sorts of special metal programming today including the premieres of Behind The Music Remastered: Megadeth at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the exclusive debut of Banger Films’ groundbreaking documentary series, Metal Evolution, at 10 p.m. ET/PT and the ninth season premiere of a VH1 Classic original That Metal Show at 11 p.m. ET/PT.

I'm most excited about the documentary Metal Evolution (I've got the DVR set). It was made by Sam Dunn who did the fabulous Metal: A Headbanger's Journey in 2005 and Iron Maiden's Flight 666 in 2009.

There will be special metal programming all day long on VH1 Classic, including lots of Metal Mania videos and movies like This Is Spinal Tap. Be sure to celebrate the day!

The Asking Alexandria Remix Album is Going to Be Awesome

Asking Alexandria will release Stepped Up and Scratched later this month. It's a remix album featuring new versions of some of the band's best songs. I really, really, really love techno and electronica for running. Throw in metal guitars and British accents and I'm good to go for several miles. I am going crazy for the Celldweller Remix of "A Lesson Never Learned."

Have patience. You'll be hearing a lot about this remix album in the coming weeks!

Want: Steven Tyler Cabbage Patch Kid Doll

OMG, the Children's Action Network is hosting a charity auction on eBay right now featuring celebrity look-a-like Cabbage Patch Kids dolls. Is it wrong that I really want the Steven Tyler doll?

The Steven doll is very accurate and I think would be an amazing conversation piece. Of course, I don't have the money for the doll, but maybe you do!

The Children's Action Network is a national adoption awareness organization dedicated to finding homes for children in the U.S. who are in foster care.

Check out the Steven Tyler auction in case you want to bid. I love his little black and white striped shoes, just like the Draw the Line era. He's also wearing a skull necklace and has a soul patch. Awesomeness.

Who Will Be the New Singer of Velvet Revolver?

So Jimmy Gnecco of Ours was rumored to be the new singer of Velvet Revolver, but apparently that is off now. Duff McKagan swears Velvet Revolver will have a new singer by the end of the year, but the last time I looked at the calendar it was November... and time is ticking.

I'm not sure what the deal is with Velvet Revolver. Either it's really hard for the guys in the band to replace Weiland, or Slash and Company have impossible expectations.

I keep thinking Velvet Revolver will get it together soon and release a new album. Can you imagine if the band really did pick a new singer and record something fast? Velvet Revolver could theoretically be available for the summer festival season. I'd love to see them. At least, I think. A new singer will essentially make the band brand new again. Let's hope the band makes the right choice when it comes to picking the guy/gal behind the mic.

Who do you think should sing for Velvet Revolver?

The Last Vegas, 'The Other Side' -- New Video

The Last Vegas has just released a new video for "The Other Side." The single is the band's first new work in three years. The song will be featured on a new album due sometime in 2012. I can't wait!
