South Texas Rock Fest

southtexas.jpg

If you don't care for the Rocklahoma 2008 line-up there is an alternative: the South Texas Rock Fest.

The San Antonio-based event is three days and features some great Glam bands. It is sponsored by Miller-Lite and Harley-Davidson.

Confirmed bands for the South Texas Rock Fest are:

Bang Tango, House of Lords, Stephen Pearcy, Jackyl, Helix, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat, Firehouse, Y&T, Queensryche, Dokken, Skid Row, Pretty Boy Floyd, Mad Margritt and more. Evidently there are several bands still to be announced...

Did I mention the South Texas Rock Fest is the exact same weekend as Rocklahoma? Exactly - it is July 11-13. Talk about a bummer. If the festivals were different weekends, I would go to both.

Here's something else you need to know: tickets for the South Texas Rock Fest go on sale today. V.I.P. seats are just $250 bucks and include beer and food. Here's the caveat: there are only 100 V.I.P. seats - so you better act fast. Camping is free with a paid ticket.

Just look at what you get with your V.I.P. ticket:

  • VIP identification badge.
  • Event T-shirt.
  • Prime VIP seating on the stage.
  • Private VIP tent with lounging sofas.
  • Several VIP Receptions with food and drink.
  • A meal all three evenings along with hors d'oeuvres all day.
  • Meet & Greets with the bands when available.
  • Massage therapist.
  • VIP Games.
  • Men or women's VIP gift.
  • Private Party in the VIP lounge after the show.
  • Free Beer, Sodas, Water, Red Bull

If funds are tight (and they always are in my household!) you can get a three day general admission pass for just $75. That's a deal.

***What do you think of this festival competing with Rocklahoma? I think the promoters are brave to say the least.

First off...very stupid to hold this the same weekend of ROK...secondly only a 100 VIP tickets??? and lastly, no way this lineup is as good at ROK,,,even if they add Motley and Posion.

whoa if they added Motley and Poison it would be much better than rock.....but some of those bands are playing rock. like pretty boy floyd. how are they doin both???

Chey I guess it will be a fly in play the gig on one date and fly out and play the gig on another date after all the scheduling gurus will be able to work around the roster for both events and lock it in to suit all parties.

I was just going to ask same question..Like for instance Joe Leste is playing with Beautiful Creatures at Rocklahoma too.

most of the bands played rok 07, so no. i'll see some different bands this year.

I don't know.. it's cheaper, and has good bands. I'd say if I was looking at the 2 side by side for the first time, I'd probably choose to go to this one.

Yeah, this is a dumb move. If they held it the week before or after, they would attract people like me, coming from overseas. As it stands a lot of the people they want to get, will be at ROK.

That VIP sure looks good tho

I really need to try and get something like this organised in the UK - maybe i would be the only 1 to turn up tho. Im jealous now.

I would kill to go to either event! If I could actually go this year, I would have to choose the South Texas Rock Fest just because my fiance's father's band is playing at the Fest. His band is called The Godz. They were kinda, sorta big in the late 70's early 80's. There were huge here in Ohio.

Wow. That VIP deal sounds pretty sweet. I'd rather go to ROK though. (Even though I despise camping.)

Christine I heard of The Godz..That's so cool..They rocked!!!!! =)

I would go to either of them in a heartbeat...if I could. I just think it's not to bright to have this one the SAME weekend as Rocklahoma.

red6ixx I'd join you in a UK version! I really hope we could get something like this over here.

Well the ticket price is obviously much better here, but the ROK package & the bands playing look better. Which LA Guns is playing this? Tracii's or Phil's?

And if the bands played @ both festivals all they would have to do is play one on one day and one on another. Oklahoma's not too far from Texas...is it? I'm sure about a day's drive could get them there.

Joe - Wow! Thanks! I actually think they're pretty good. The line up playing in TX is not the original line up. My fiance's father, Eric Moore, is the only original member. I'm sure they will still kick ass! :)

I think I'd want to go to both. This year I'm going to Rocklahoma, maybe next year I'll go to STRF. The high selling point of ROK for is that it's on my home turf. That's hard to beat, eh?
March 25, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterlepfan
yeah, i'm lazy, so i doubt i'll travel away from my family to go anywhere if i can help it. not when i can drive less than an hour to rocklahoma. now if the lineup next year looks pretty sucky who knows?

They should do the festival one week later. We would happily cancel our plans to drive to LA and go to Texas. 7 days of great music in two weeks would be the best vacation ever. Since that's not gonna happen we will stick with Rocklahoma. :)

I bought one of the 100 VIP tickets! I was going to ROK, but a 15 minute drive to the venue and free massages? Hell yes...

My woman and I also just got a pair of VIP tickets for STRF.
We are making the trip from Phoenix and I cannot fucking wait!

Really wanted to go to Rocklahoma last year, but couldn't afford it at the time.
This year, I wasn't too thrilled with the band line-up at Rocklahoma...plus, I have heard that ALL the motel rooms in that entire area are booked solid and to tell you the truth, we didn't really want to camp.

So... about a week ago I found out about the STRF and saw the band line-up and I KNEW we had to go!
It seems like you get more for your money with a VIP ticket to STRF, rather than Rocklahoma. Plus, motel rooms are plentiful in the San Antonio area.

This is gonna cost us about a grand apiece (VIP tickets, plane tickets, motel room, rental car, etc..), but if the promoters pull this off without a hitch....it will be WELL worth it!

Just a few questions though:

First of all, the figure of only 100 VIP tickets being sold seems INSANELY small to me...is this actually true? If so, I'm glad I already got mine ;)

Secondly, it says on the website that your VIP ticket includes "prime VIP seating on the stage". What exactly do they mean by that?

At any rate...I'm REALLY looking forward to this festival!

Anyone else coming from out of town?
