Hot and Ready

Who here remembers Reckless?

Raise your hand.

I'm waiting.

Ok, well, Reckless is (yes, is - the band still exists!) a Canadian rock outfit that is basically all Glam. I think Reckless originally tried to be a cross of Helix and Def Leppard, but I'm not sure they achieved that goal. Now, this isn't your most "known" of all Glam bands, but guitarist  Steve Madden apparently has quite the Glam rep for women, big hair and the other bits that go along with being a rock star.

Anyway, I don't know near enough about the band's history to write it all down but they do have a funny website, so it’s all good. Go read about their history, pins, paternity tests…and road crew.

Seriously.

When you’re done reliving the joy of Canadian Glam, watch this clip for the band’s most famous song “Hot and Ready.” Doesn't suck but I think the vocals are a little thin.

Pretty decent band there - with at least a memorable Hook (as opposed to the other shyte you've been posting about lately). The RECKLESS band that is better than these guys is the one produced by the Twisted Sister guys back in 1987. The album was called 'No Frills' and totally kicks ass. Did you not see them perform last year at Rocklahoma Allyson?
uhhh, no you didn't - but you should have.

Check em out.

Sam, I’m getting really sick of your crappy attitude, so knock it off. You come here, spout nasty to me and get all my regular readers whipped up.

Not everyone shares the same attitude that if it wasn’t created during or before 1987, it must suck. I would hardly call bands like Charm City Devils, The Ending, The Last Vegas, Pop Evil and Drowning Pool “shyte.” My Glam, over half those acts were either discovered by Nikki Sixx, cite Motley as their main influence or feature members of former Glam bands!

As for me not seeing Reckless at Rocklahoma last year, how would you know? We spent no time together there last year, you have no idea who I did and didn’t watch and quite frankly – I can’t remember half the side stage acts. Most bands didn’t have a banner, the times were screwy and it was impossible to tell who was playing most of the time.

Hey Sam. If ROK could organise anything, then perhaps we'd have seen more bands than we did. We DID regularly make the trek to side stages, but of course, as there's two at once ( and again this year ), it means you CAN'T see them all. As Allyson said, the geniuses at ROK decided that we didn't need to know what band was playing, there were no banners or other announcements, when I liked a band, I had trouble finding someone to tell me who they were. Way to get support/sell CDs.

I've been listening to CDs I bought at ROTR. What a night and day operation. Organised, bands had banners, the CDs on sale were easy to find, I wasn't drowning in mud. It was amazing.

Sorry if my outspoken nature offends you Allyson. I just say it like it is. As far as this statement goes...

"I would hardly call bands like Charm City Devils, The Ending, The Last Vegas, Pop Evil and Drowning Pool “shyte.” My Glam, over half those acts were either discovered by Nikki Sixx, cite Motley as their main influence or feature members of former Glam bands!"

I don't care who discovered them or who influenced them - if they can't write a good song or play their instruments then they suck!! And NONE of those bands have impressed me AT ALL. Where's the hook?

Allyson do you have any idea how many band submissions I get daily fdrom these cats who say they are 'influenced' by Crue , Queensryche , Ratt etc etc?? Then when I listen to them they totally suck.

As a label-owner I am very much in tune with the music industry otherwise I wouldn't be successful right??

You think they are great and you +LOVE+ them. I disagree and think they stink to high heavens. Whats the big deal?

You think Pair-A-Dice suck and I think they are one of the best LIVE acts I've ever seen.

All I'm saying is that you really need to discover the REAL talent being offered in the Rock world - and the ones you've been talking about lately just pale in comparison to the 'biggies'. It's the difference between mediocrity and superstars - or in your language - the difference between that construction worker on AI and Adam Lambert.

Did you hate Child's Play too, or are they good because they had no success in the 80s ?

I am listening to Charm City Devils. Is this like A7X, where you insult a band without actually hearing them, based on the decade they came out of ?

I guess the big question is, what is more profitable, or leads to more success, being discovered by Nikki Sixx, or by you ?

Oh boy.......
Here we go again.
Opinions are like assholes.... You know the rest.
Cant we just talk about M3 some more?
Saturday is gonna rock.

*pout* he started it.....

I sure wish I was still in the US for M3 tho.

Christian , your opinions and comments are without merit and backbone - you have no clue how I operate.

I don't see any bands doing that much better than what my roster is doing or has done.

What the fuck has popularity got to do with anything. Some of my favorite bands are Firehouse , Aerosmith and Bon Jovi.

And dude , what the hell does a 'decade' have to do with anything? I am a huge fan of thousands of bands from THIS decade so I don't get your point.

I've listened to Ax7 and they are very talented musicians with average songwriting abilities.

I've listened to Charm City Devils and was not impressed. (Check youtube)

There are thousands of bands I'd rather listen to. Accept it , deal with it , move on mate.

I'll be VERY supportive when I see a band on this site that kicks ass - it's just been awhile - I don't flock to every band just because Nikki Sixx discovered them....so far all of his discoveries have sucked ass.

I highly recommend you meet me in person at Rocklahoma Christian - we can have a great convo and you'll understand what I'm all about.

40 days to go til Rocklahoma fuckers!! THAT is exciting!!

Have fun at M3 - looks promising.

Hey Allyson,

The song wasn't bad, but during the video all I kept thinking about was how Beavis and Butthead would've ripped it! :-D

Sam is right that we cant automatically jump onto every band the Nikki is into. Lord, we all know that Trapt blows ass. But Nikki is usually a pretty good judge. Im leaving for M3 right now from Cincinnati, hope to see all of you there. Im the big guy with the big hair and the Tuff t-shirt up front, LOL... ROCK N ROLL!!!!!

But I did think this was a great verse:

"No explanation, no degredation. We're all half of the celebration!"

Sam, you got owned. Again. This time by Allyson as well.
May 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterValentine
Owned by who Joel? I don't think so. I even see other peeps agreeing with me. Shame you're a sell-out bro. (Tight Young Rectums - LOL)

Food for thought - when Allyson posts about good bands have you noticed the difference in responses?
May 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRetrospect Records
It's clear to me that when Allyson posts about the narrow spectrum of bands that you like, she gets a more predictably favorable response. However, the site is a LOT more interesting for posting about more than Motley Crue and Poison, as far as I am concerned.

I don't believe you're at all in tune with the industry as a whole. You called A7X screamo at one point. In fact, I believe you said they could not sing, could not play and had no hooks. Sure, you took it back, but that's the point. You dissed them without hearing them. I don't see how someone who recycles bands that couldn't get signed in the 80s needs to be in tune with the industry as a whole, but why say you are, when it's clear you're not ?
May 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterChristian
Christian , trust me when I say I am FAR MORE in tune with the music industry than you are , that is abundantly clear. I ain't saying you don't know music , we just have different tastes obviously. I like bands that are melodic and have good musicians and thought-out hooks. You don't.

I won't support the mediocrity you seem to be attracted to. Avenged Sevenfold are a talented band - yep , I agree - I'd heard their early stuff and was immediately turned off by the shitty vox - they have since turned that around (smart).

Airbourne , great AC/DC clones but with more fire. Only problem with Airbourne is that their song structures tend to be too 'samey' for me but I love their album.
You totally contradict yourself Christian - one minute you say I want more popular bands but then the next you say I want obscure bands. Which is it?

I support GOOD music , no matter how popular , no matter what decade. Good music is subjective - talent is objective.

Why promote bands that Clear Channel have already sunk their claws into? It's the bands CC WON'T touch that need the exposure , but I don't expect anyone not in the music industry to understand that.

I guess what annoys me is that this website is called BRING BACK GLAM and there's a feature on phucking DROWNING POOL - a band that is the antithesis of Glam.

It's Ally's website and she can 'report' on whatever she feels like , I understand that. Just don't get all defensive when me and other peeps criticize. Otherwise , don't allow the public to make comments on those blogs.

I just wanna say I'm with Sam 100% on this.

I just think everyone should try and respect each others opinions more and also, the personal "attacks" need to stop.
