Gearing Up for Whitesnake...

I'm seeing Pop Evil, Whitesnake and Judas Priest tomorrow night. I have awesome seats and I'm pretty excited. As such, I went and did a little advanced research. I wanted to know the set list for Whitesnake...and to see what the band sounds like today. See, I've never see Whitesnake live - and they are high on my "see before death" list. Happily, the clips seem awesome.

I'll post a review after the show tomorrow. Until then, I'll be listening to Priest and Whitesnake nonstop on my iPod!

Aw!!! What can be more glam than to see Reb & Uriah flipping their hair around? ;)

The next time I see Whitesnake I'll be healthier--the one time I went I'd just had surgery on my nose & really couldn't enjoy it. You will have a blast. I am insanely jealous of you, but have fun! :)

Seeing this show Saturday night in San Antonio! For once I haven't looked at a set list or read any reviews. I'm going in totally blind on this one. I can hardly wait!

Pity David can't hit the high notes anymore.
In the lower register and mostly in the accoustic section of the show he was still pretty good. But in the hard rock stuff his voice is definitively shot. I don't think he cheats per se but he definitively uses all the tricks in the book - when he has to hit the high notes he takes the mike away from his mouth... and the guys (mostly Reb and Drury) take over.
Expect lots of audience participation bits as well.

You wont be dissapointed. I saw them 2 years ago and they were great!

ive seen them a couple times and as recent as a couple years ago, you wont be disappointed unless they dont play a song you really want to hear , great band live

Taking the mic away while singing doesn't mean anything. It's just when you you sing that high you have to take the mic away or the sound will get all messed up. Other singers use that technique too, who have no problems with their voice yet.

Have fun at the gig Allyson. I've seen Whitesnake with Alice Cooper last year and the gig was great. Of course Coverdale has his good and his bad days, but it's definitely not as bad as some people say. :)

When he takes the mic away he doesn't even bother to pretend to sing.
Don't get me wrong they put on a great show - but David is more a great frontman than a great singer these days.

Saw the show last weekend Some personal highlights were Reb's guitar solo and Halford searing on Freewheel Burning! Enjoy the show I sure did.

@Tony? Really? He surely did sing when he held the mic aways when I saw them a couple of months ago. I stood in the first five rows, close enough to tell for sure. As I said, he's not the only one singing that way. His voice isn't the best anymore, I agree with it, but the way he uses his mic has nothing do with cheating.

Yes, really when I saw him - apparently he has his good nights & his bad nights. Sometimes he sings more than others - sometimes he has to rest his voice.
As I said I don't think he cheats - in fact it is often very obvious what he is doing.

When I saw them, I heard them saying they were testing vocal effects during setup, but I was at the front, and as far as I could see, he doesn't use anything more than anyone else does, and he still sings. Most of these guys skip the odd high note nowadays, but the only person I've ever seen live for whom the voice was just a mess, and ruined the show, was Tom Keifer.
