Marq Torien Vents On Facebook

Marq Torien took to the official Bulletboys Facebook page to vent earlier this week. I'd love to know the backstory here for sure. Here's the post:

"The music business is Bullshit!!! For those of you who have kids...Tell them NOT to get into this bizz!!! Try anything but this business!!!! Been in this game forever! Nothing changes, just the same ol F#9!!! Lies, deceit and treachery...Have at it!!!! Music echoes life? Who ever said that is full of it!!! 4real....Have a good one...I love to be lied to. Especially from the ones you trust the most!! Xo"

That's all. I don't usually post gossipy notes on here, but this definitely piqued my interest for sure. The music business can be ugly, so I'm sure a decent amount of drama went down to push Marq to make such a public comment on Facebook. Whatever happened, I hope it all works out for Marq and the band.

I wonder if Ace or one of our other "reporters on the street" could shine a bit of light on this. Like you, Allyson, my interest is piqued.

I just hope it is not another case of his pants being sold on eBay. A shirt, fine. But not another pair of pants. When you are as "Hard as a Rock" and want to go "Smooth Up" in someone, walking around pantless is so declasse . . . not to mention illegal, in most place at least.

Happy holidays everyone.

Lol Him! Maybe old Marq should " Hang On (to) St. Christopher" for moral support in these rough times.....

Hahaha!!! Sounds like he got a demo snubbed or something. As HIM suggests, it's time to call in a METAL Detector to solve Torien's cryptic message. And VERY funny, Gary!

p.s. Remember, Allyson, it was me Googling Torien 6 years ago to see if he was playing somewhere locally in Naples, Florida where I once lived and to the best of my knowledge, he still resides. As I recall, the location of the eBay auction of the pants you posted not too long HIM is referring to was listed from that area, as well.

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."

Marq has been around for a lonnng time, he's experienced the highs of rockstardom w/ "Smooth Up In Ya", the lows of his band AND an entire genre' of music imploding, the near misses of joining Ozzy's band, only to quickly be dumped for Jake E. Lee, or his stint as Janet Jackson's guitarist, only to leave right before she became massively huge.

I can see how he's a little bitter, 30+ years of work with almost nothing to show for it. However, his current rant? I don't have the slightest clue. I can only speculate.

Ugh! Too hungover. What I meant to say, Al, is, if you'll recall, It was Googling Torien 6 years ago to see if he was playing around Naples, where I found out he lived at the time I was also living there.

The story is he married into HUGE money, as his wife (I assume he's still married) is the daughter of one of the founders of a prominent bank (which I won't name here).

Ace! I totally forgot what I think you mentioned on here in your Comments on Al's "Pants" post... That Ozzy passed him over for Jake E. Lee! I had NO IDEA he was that accomplished as a guitarist since he didn't play one as the lead singer of The Bulletboys when I saw them at The Cat Club back in the day, or in those classic videos like "Smooth Up In Ya", one of THE Greatest Hair Metal Songs of All Time!

I am losing it! The anecdote is, I was Googling Torien and that's how I found Bring Back Glam! In other words, it's ALL your fault, Al, why I'm always driving everyone crazy on here, haha!!

Had you only not posted that thing on Torien 6 years ago, I might never have found this site and everyone would have been spared, haha!!

Smooth, mb, very smooth...up in ya!

Metalboy! Just an FYI, the term "accomplished guitarist" and Marq Torien are to NEVER be used in the same sentence again. Marq didn't get the gig because his guitar playing was "unbelievably horrible."
Also, Marq isn't still married to "money", unless you can go to jail for lack of child support while still being married; auz he did.
He is one tortured soul. Depending on the day you meet him or whether he's on or off his meds, the guy is a complete dickbiscuit.

I had a feeling, Insider. What a shame. Too bad "Freakshow" marked the beginning of the end for this guy AND Bulletboys. Had only they genuinely tried to top "Smooth Up In Ya", they might have had a little more staying power.

Marq is actually a quite "accomplished" guitarist. Anyone who has seen him live in the past 10-15 years can attest to this. He never played lead with BulletBoys because Mick Sweda had more of the groove that the band and WB Records were looking for. I've known Marq since 1989, but we haven't spoken for a few years. Maybe I'll call him to see what's up. He can be a bit dramatic, so my guess is that he is processing a bad situation as something much worse than it really is. He has his problems and can be difficult to work with at times, but he is a genuinely good-hearted guy. I wish him the best.

Hey, Metalboy!, Marq is definitely no longer married to money, as he once was, and has relocated to Southern California. My understanding is that he was not well-liked by his former wife's family.

Happy Holidays to all of my fellow Glamsters.

Yeah, Marq is quite the lead guitarist. It was his rhythm guitar skills that lost him the OZZY gig. He just couldn't groove. He was in RATT in Warren DiMartini's position before they got signed... (that's when I was hanging w/ him.. he used to borrow Marshall cabinets from ACTRESS to fill out Ratt's stage show.) I've actually heard his song for Ozzy called "Bark At The Moon", & it's totally a different, slower tune than the one JAKE E.Lee wrote, & Ozzy took all the credit for. Warren had split to take Lynch's spot in Dokken. He also was in the Motown act, Kagny & the Dirty Ratz, with former Sarge's lead singer. Anything for a deal, ANY record deal. and that led to Janet Jackson.

But Torien's lead guitar skills are pretty high up there.

Guys, thanks for the Holiday presents of the Inside Scoop. Who woulda known except for you guys living it!

Yeah, I met Torien's Brother-In-Law in Naples, Florida at a Silvertide (what th?) at a local bar, Pelican Larry's, right before I wound up Googling Marc as a result of that chance meeting, ultimately finding this site instead of him.

But, yeah, his Brother-In-Law said they just hated the guy and thought he was a total jackass. I personally never want to believe someone is like that but he does, unfortunately, have a little bit of a reputation in that department.

Well, what the h*ll, money isn't everything.

"money isn't everything."

Yeah. And when you're working for Ozzy, the money isn't ANYTHING.
Randy's best weekly paychecks were $1,000.00 a week.
Jake's? $600.00.
At least Rhoads retained his songwriting & publishing rights.
Jake didn't even get credit for his. Bob Daisley & Lee Kerslake are STILL getting the shaft from Sharon to this day.
I don't know what Zakk ever got,but I'm sure he signed a better deal than Jake had. Current guitarist Gus G. ?
I bet he could do better working full-time at Taco Bell.

Barely there, dummy

Thanks for the info guys. Marq is such a great talent! I understand that his ex-wife stopped him from seeing his kids (not cool!). No wonder he has bad moments.

Wow, Ace! That really is awful how Ozzy goes along with the criminally ruthless tactics of Sharon Osbourne.
December 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
Marq was never married into huge money (as you say) nor was he ever stopped from seeing his kids. Marq has made a conscious decision to not be in his children's lives, and honestly it is probably for the best.
He has deep seeded issues and drug problems which have led him to where he is in his personal and professional life. I have watched him over two + decades slide farther down into his own crazy world. I still listen to his rants and talk about how everyone is to blame for his problems but him and I just nod my head and offer my support because I honestly hope he can turn it around for his own sake.
Unfortunately, the band can no longer play shows in Florida because he has more arrest warrants active in the state. I have friends who keep asking to see them and help get them some shows in the Jacksonville area, but they can't play.
I think deep down he is a good guy who just can't stop believing his own bs. As someone else said, the rants are usually overdramatic plays on simple situations. I wish him and the band the best of luck on this current tour and hope they can get it together to make a successful run of it.

I played in a band with Marq when we were both in High School. He was just a chord cruncher back then. I was a really good lead guitar player. Marq was very competitive and practiced hard and surpassed me! He ended up leaving me in the dust and it really irritated me at the time. Then I ran into him in a store near LA and he told me he had just got signed. I was envious, to say the least, in that my near signing with Epic Records fell through totally. It was to amaze that I got that far; in that the music we were playing totally sucked big time. Its good it did not happen. I was young and stupid and the music business would have destroyed me. I would have destroyed ended up a homeless bum in a few years if it had happened.
Marq got signed at a bad time. Two years later alternative and rap was all people cared about. Marq was too old to understand the grunge sound and the styles of bands like Smashing Pumpkins and Scott Wieland's band. (Forget the name) I gave up music decades ago. Marq is a great guitar player. I hope things have gotten better for him.
