Hey Mom! It Is A Car Crash... And I Like It!

Today's post is from our friend HIM.

The title of this entry is enough to clue you in on the video below:

I love AC/DC. I enjoy Steel Panther. I feel “meh” about Myles Kennedy, especially when I see him singing Guns N’ Roses songs.

But you know what? This is . . . just . . . plain . . . fun. Sure, it is sloppy. Sure, Saenz and Kennedy handle the hand-offs like two lubed up dim wits. Lyrics are mangled. But fun is had. And Parrish does the Chuck Berry (not the Angus Young) well.

In a mid-sized Inland Northwest town called Spokompton (full disclosure: I love Spokane and wish shows other than “COPS” filmed there), Steel Panther reminded people what they are all about. For haters, it is bad parody and poor form. For fans, it is fun times and good memories.

Miles? You made me a fan . . . for a day. You showed up, supported your hometown, had fun, and added to the mix. You pointed to what makes some Steel Panther shows a blast. I salute you.

Yeah, I agree with anybody, Myles is not what Axl was back in the day, but he does have a unique voice that does make some GNR songs sound cool in a different way. I do love his stuff with Slash, but I'm not a huge Alter Bridge fan. As far as Steel Panther goes, I saw them about three weeks ago finally, and they put on one hell of a good time. Id love to see them do a live collaboration like this. If ya got a minute, go to youtube and check out Satchels guitar/drum solo.

Am I "anybody," Dj??? Well, you are "somebody" in my book!

I agree with you, MB. As I think I've mentioned here before, when I saw Slash and Myles at a small venue in NJ a couple years ago, my impression was, "meh, a decent garage band that did GnR covers." But that's about it.

Yeah, Eddie, I still can't figure out why Slash has stuck with this guy, even giving him billing in the SLASH logo. After all, the guy is the absolute pinnacle of mediocrity... wait, isn't that an oxymoron, HIM?!

I mean, WTF... It's not "VAN HALEN featuring David Lee Roth", for Chrissakes. Where is Slash's situational awareness on this... It should be SLASH in all capped CHROME, as it actually was for a time.

Look, we all know Weiland was a pain in the arse (God Rest His Rock & Roll Soul), but sure as h*ll, you couldn't call Velvet Revolver mediocre. Slash settled for less with this as*clown Kennedy, when he could have gotten anybody.

Let's hope the Gn'R thing lasts just to get this nobody off the frickin' stage. Just pray AC/DC doesn't pick him up, hahaha!!!... though I don't really see Angus goin' for that. Who should AC/DC get if they decide to keep going. There's a question worth a post!

p.s. Keep it long and ROCK on, Eddie!

Yes, you're somebody HIM hahah. But my whole point was, he's no Axl and that part I assume everybody would agree on. But in my view he just adds a cool different vibe to GNR songs.

To answer MB's question: Tom Keifer should sing for AC/DC...you had to know I was going to suggest that.

Cannot get into Myles vox at all. I loved both Slash's Snakepit albums but Myles killed any chance of buying new Slash albums for me.

Fletch - you nailed it. Tom would be an amazing choice for a while, not a permanent gig though. That would be a waste of his originality. AC/DC are legends though so who wouldn't be honoured.

I heard an option was the singer they had before Bon. But who knows.

Fletch, you're on to something there my friend. Tom would kill as a fill in for Brian. As for Myles. His voice is not my favorite either, but I'd also like to point out something a lot of folks don't know about him. He can absolutely set a fretboard on fire. (He is a very talented guitarist)

SoundGuy definitely needs to dial back the gated reverb on that snare... A little goes a long way.

another person who I thought to "come out of the wood work" as people say is Brity Fox' original lead singer, Dean Davidson. His solo career hasn't exactly worked out, and while we need Tom Keifer to keep doing his thing, so my suggestion was, as Rita writes, a temporary solution. But I believe that Dean could manage the vocal responsibilities quite well.

However, the members of BF live in my general vicinity and have played in local cover bands which I've seen many times. Any time I've asked about Dean, I've basically gotten the same response in that he has kinda gone the way of Donnie Purnell....but I'll still make the case, still carry the torch and still keep the faith.

fletch & sean o to front ac/dc

would've been fun.

Unless, of course Keifer would be writing the songs with Angus, Rita. Then his originality would shine through. I bet Keifer would seriously entertain the idea of joining AC/DC. After all, Cinderella always played "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" by AC/DC" over the P.A. at the opening of their shows right before taking the stage.

The only concern would be the health of Keifer's voice singing AC/DC material night after night.

Another possibility would be Gary "Angry" Anderson of Rose Tattoo, a fellow Aussie, but I'm not sure of his current status.

Hey, what about UDO? Hahaha!!!
