Def Leppard Announce Record Store Day Vinyl

Remember when Def Leppard was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? The band will now release their induction performance as a special vinyl pressing for Record Store Day. That happens on August 29 and there will be 4,000 copies made. Talk about a small run! This will be a neat addition to any serious Def Leppard collection.

Okay, now THIS is something cool! ...

I even feel like this would have wound up as a chart topping live album back in the day ...

The encore where they bring out one of their / our heroes, Ian Hunter from Mott The Hoople to join them in a bang up version of “All The Young Dudes” is a memory well worth keeping.

p.s. Sorry Boyz ... Got a little sidetracked by the systematic dismantling of our country but I’m “Back To Rock” now!!!

Good on them supporting RSD. And true, Metalboy!, having Hunter along for the ride is a bonus.

But . . .

I would much rather purchase something from the vault. A classic live recording from back in the day.

Have any of you two purchase RSD albums in the past (Metalboy! and HIM)? If so, have you found the quality on some being really not so good? The live albums I've picked up the past few years seem really tinny sounding. Not to mention, the albums are really short in length (and yes I know it's for the quality), but I've been disappointed these past few years with the sound quality. Now SOME have been amazing, but few an far between. Wondering how easy this Lep album will be to find on RSD, I'm bummed because it's the last Saturday of the month and that is our busiest weekend of any month. This will be the first one I've either had to roll the dice and pre-order at a few of my favorite shops or God forbid, purchase on ebay. I laughed at the prices of some of the albums I bought on ebay...for that money, if I was a complete jerk, I would have sold them, BUT...I love and appreciate the vinyl more than tearing someone's head off with a crazy price. Then again, supply and demand, you can't sell it if you don't have a willing buyer. ;)

Sweet Lou, I have the Ronnie James Dio picture disc from 2018 with "Holy Diver" live at Donnington in 1983, with "Electra" as the second song (the only song thus far released from the _Magica_ follow-up he was working on prior to his sad passing). I have also listened to my friend's cassette (yes, I have a cassette player) copy of AC/DC's _Back in Black_.

It is a picture disc. So there's that. It is live. So there's that too (though RJD live in 83 is a good thing!). The AC/DC cassette? It sounds like _Back in Black_ on cassette. And that was how I first listened to it, so I can't really complain about quality.

My guess is that, as with most things, the Lep release will be hard to get initially But then it will crop up on other sites for a mark-up. But I think the main point is supporting record stores. So I give some of these releases a pass given that they are trying to support a cause (and a good one, especially nowadays).

Sweet Lou, which albums have you bought on RSD? Just curious, as well as curious about the variations in quality. Spill the beans!

I typically dont buy RSD exclusives, because of price and quality, but this one looks intriguing. I do like the concept of RSD and like to support by buying other things like new releases or hidden gems.
