New Package Features Bon Scott Rarities

Before AC/DC, Bon Scott was in a band named Fraternity. Seasons Of Change - The Complete Recordings 1970-1974 is now available from Cherry Red Records. The package includes two albums from Fraternity that were never officially released and this package also includes some long-forgotten session tapes. Have a listen:

I always find these sorts of things incredibly interesting. It really shows you where a person started and where they went . . . esp. when it comes to now 'known' legends. Some of it is pretty funny. Pantera as a poor-man's version of Twisted Sister (at least in terms of the look). Alice in Chains as glam. Ministry with the faux-British affectations.

I have heard some of these Fraternity songs before. It shows the range of styles that were at play when a band is trying to break big . . . throw something at the wall and see if it sticks. But it is certainly Bon. I personally like "Seasons of Change." Think In-A-Gadda-Da-Aqualung, with a tasteful flute intro (and neck beard, natch) from our randy and departed rocker!!

In some cases, like Brian Johnson in Geordie, the sound is a closer fit with what we came to experience (and with that wild hair just flying free and unencumbered by a hat!).

In other cases, like Dio in Ronnie and the Prophets, you are somewhat dumb-struck. Then, given that you know it is Dio, you go: "Yeah, I can hear the Dio I love within all that doo-wop stuff." Then again, I am partial to Ronnie Dio and the Red Caps. Those boys sure did swing!

Thing is, history is amazing. We all start somewhere. We all land somewhere else. Make the most of the points in between.
