This Show Excites Me - But I Won't Be Going
Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 05:09PM
It's been awhile since a special package tour or one-off show has really excited me. Metallica, Ice Nine Kills and Greta Van Fleet playing together in Las Vegas definitely caught my attention. The show will be at Allegiant Stadium on Friday, February 25. Unfortunately the tickets are bonkers expensive. I'm talking the bottom level tickets are like $325 each, plus fees. There are no regular Ticketmaster seats left, just "verified resale" which means crazy high prices. Add in the cost of travel plus trying to avoid the current COVID surge (who knows how long it's going to last at this point), I won't be seeing this dream show live. If you are going, know I am so jealous and I demand a full rundown of the event.
Beyond honored to be opening for @Metallica on February 25th at @AllegiantStadm with @GretaVanFleet. We’ll see you Psychos in Vegas.. Tickets available at https://t.co/mvIRSRzIoy pic.twitter.com/swr4wYcv3w

First you have 'Tallica (in order of priority), a well-diminished band, though thriving brand. Case in point? This is sponsored by their 'musically-aged' whiskey. So, again, nope. I always wonder in these sorts of cases: did they really think this through? Does a band with Het really need to endorse frivolous one-off alcohols? Then again, Het might like the check. He can put it on the table. After all, he is the table.
Next you have Regretta Van Susteren. Formerly of Zep fame, now of Rush-dabbling (though I get the criticism of this observation in previous posts). There is no lemon to squeeze with these brats, and the juice doth not run down my speakers (let alone my leg). Ugh.
Finally you have Keystone Ice Nine Lives Skill Drill. I get their shtick. I actually posted that I appreciated their effort, even if I don't really like their stuff.
But, this line-up. . . at these prices?!?!? Again, nope. What next? A rehash of their symphony wank at the Chase Center in SF for the same sorts of ridiculous prices? Oh wait. 'Tallica did that. Without opening bands. So I guess this is actually a really, really good deal.
Or you could watch the live stuff from _Binge n' Purge_ and get a reasonably fun few hours out of that, at far less cost. Better yet, watch _Cliff 'Em All_ and feel like you are back in the day, living the dream. Bell bottoms optional.
… You may think it’s cool, but it’s annoying (probably almost as annoying as my overuse of ellipses), especially when this is a band you apparently lionize … I’m surprised you would even go there with such a blasphemous endeavor, given your professional expertise as a linguist.
