'Ace Of Spades' Live In 2013 - Ugly Kid Joe

If you haven't seen this recently... or ever, I present to you the masterpiece that is the Ugly Kid Joe cover of the Motorhead classic "Ace of Spades."

Ugly Kid Joe performed a nighttime set at Woodstock Poland in 2013. The band released the entire pro-shot show back in 2020 as a gift to fans missing live music because of COVID lockdowns. There were 500,000 people in attendance at the Poland 2013 gig - and Ugly Kid Joe really feeds off the crowd. I have no idea why I was thinking of this concert today, but I looked up a few clips and was reminded how amazing it all seemed.

Here's the entire concert - it's just over an hour long. "Ace of Spades" and "Everything About You" are the show finale.

I am not really that much of a fan of UKJ (though I got the PBF joke pretty early on). And, when you start as a lark, as a goof, it is really hard to pivot out of that groove/rut/branding (we have discussed that very issue regarding other bands on this site, some quite recently). I also had a hard time not vomiting when I heard their cover of Chapin. No. Don't. Please. Don't.

That said, Whitfield Crane is a great vocalist. And I think he could continue to expand his options. Maybe something Orchestra of Doom-adjacent?

I really like America's Least Wanted (including Cat's In The Cradle ... /ducks ...), but never thought they came close to matching that album again. As far as Crane being a great vocalist -- can confirm! However, he was a horrible, horrible, horrible fit with Life Of Agony. That's something, like New Coke, that never should have happened.

Appreciate your take, Gogmagog. Hope you are doing well.

And Ugly Kid Joe’s crap pales in comparison to Pretty Boy Floyd’s incredible, all-killer-no-filler “Leather Boys with Electric Toys” album, even though half of it was supposedly stolen from Kerri Kelly …

… This according to our long lost commentor, Ace Steele, who’s time is probably now devoted to spreading right-wing misinformation, rather than his great knowledge of 80’s L.A. Glam Metal, a topic he’s got A LOT of Facts about since he was actually there!
