Sunday's Best: Week 14, 2022

Another week in the books. It literally snowed here all day yesterday and we bloody miserable. Now the sun is out and a warmup is promised! That makes me grateful. I was thinking about gratitude when I saw a Tweet from David Coverdale. Made me want to listen to a little Whitesnake and think about their past live appearances. Looking over their live clips is our Sunday's Best for this week.

Whitesnake - Live at Donington in 1990. Incredible!

Here's an amazing clip from 1987 - featuring "Still Of The Night" live.

...and to compare, here's "Still Of The Night" in 2004. Also amazing!

Totally forgot Vivian Campbell was with Whitesnake for awhile. Fun footage!

He always surrounds himself with superb performers. I mean, Aldridge was behind the drums in the first band that ever played and still kills it. But . . . '87 is an eon ago and '04 is in the rear-view. Mssr. Coverdale's vocals have been horrendous for years now. I am glad he is hanging it up in a live context. Thankfully, he doesn't sing much anymore live and has hired others to help him out. So, I guess that is a win for those who go see him on his last lap around the tracks. But do, and I mean do, make sure it is the last lap.

Affirmations from Coverdale? He seems to be a decent fellow with just a smidge--a smidge, I say--of self-importance that is not entirely in keeping with his legacy or stature. But for his fans? He's the bee's knees. I give him that. And I count myself as a long-ago one of those.

The music world is better with him in the canon. No denying it.

For my money, the touring band from Slide It In was the best ever, and I don't mean just in Whitesnake's history. I think that's the best touring rock band ever. Coverdale, Sykes, Cozy Powell, Neil Murry and Jon Lord. Gives me shivers just thinking about it.

Gogmagog, you nailed it. Just listen to Cozy's drums and you get a true taste of that band's power.
