From Motley Coffee... to Def Leppard Tea

Sitting down to relax after a long day and I just saw the commercial linked below. Apparently Pure Leaf brand tea has a lower sugar option now. The brand is using Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me" for the ad campaign with some altered lyrics about less sugar and a woman doing the singing. Honestly, it's pretty weird, but this is how money is made in music in 2022. What do you think?

See my previous post.

And, with bands and artists selling the rights to their songs (to those who 'respect' and 'value' their music and will be 'good stewards' to their legacies), you gotta' know this is gonna happen more and more. Moreover, it will happen with bands that hold on to their catalog. There's gold in them thar' commercials!!!

But I think this is only one market for Lep to target. What about "Poor old codger went pee" for adult diapers? Or "More salt and sesame seeds" for a bagel brand? Or "Por favor means please" for an online language learning program? I mean, the checks are writing themselves.

Meanwhile, Lep is inspired by Bolan. Please. I just want Les Schwab (for those of you in the know) to put out a limited-edition set of Diamond Star Halo hubcaps to go with all of their dirt cheap tires. That would make me smile. Speaking of which, "Bang a Gong, Get a Ton" would be a great advert for a Chinese All-You-Can-Eat Buffet!

making a buck is fine. bastardizing “classic” tunes is sacrilegious. but it is one of those tunes that can lend itself to a lot of commercial alliteration - see Him’s post.
