Sunday's Best: Week 38, 2022
Today is September 18, 2022 - and the official start of banned book week, sponsored by the American Library Association. Some of my favorite books are on the "banned" list. I remember getting buttons way back in middle school that said "I read banned books."
Reading some banned books is our Sunday's Best for this week.
This got me to thinking - have any of the music-related books we love ended up on the so-called banned list? You would think Motley Crue's The Dirt would have to be right up there. Also Slash's autobiography. Steven Tyler's too... and on and on. This is my recommendation to you to get a library card - I personally like to use the digital downloads from Libby these days. Go read something "banned" and be a rebel. Stand-up against censorship.
Looking for some reading suggestions? My favorites Brave New World (Aldous Huxley), The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins), The Grapes of Wrath (John Steinbeck) and of course my beloved Middlesex (Jeffrey Eugenides) are always good. Middlesex won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2003. But seriously, if you haven't ever read The Dirt...now is the time. Run, don't walk, to the nearest library or bookstore and get a copy because it is so entertaining!
It begins today! This #BannedBooksWeek celebrate the ways that books unite us and make sure people know about the ways censorship divides us! https://t.co/s4OtULTKUr pic.twitter.com/ECNzkWQbap

"Derision" should be directed at groups like Moms for Liberty (conservative) or We Need Diverse Books (liberal).

I think the issue here was the season ticket comment was completely out of context to the post - as in, there was nothing mentioned about football, period.
Considering I've been a Bengals fan for literally decades now - I've heard it all and I'm used to losing games. Never had season tickets before because it wouldn't have been financially responsible. I feel very blessed to be able to have them now.
We can talk football here every Sunday for all I care. Watching football is a major part of my life. Also, congrats to all Bills fans - the team is special this year. That game last night against the Titans was a freaking pounding and a half.

And I agree. A bit of poking and prodding and the like is all in good fun. I do it all the time.
But, back to the post, I would say that Maus is a banned book that deserves to be read. Then again, I am not talking about football or Xs and Os. My apologies.
Yeah, But, Maus. Sorta' means more than who won a game this week or next. Not that we can't have our fun. Yikes.
I guess me attempting to "join the topic or even try to relate" would be an obvious ploy. That said, I did grow up in the Bay Area during the reign of Montana and Young, no less the brutish and large-headed Plunkett! I also lived in the Steel City when the Stillers (yes, that is spelled correctly) won two Super Bowls, even if I was never a true yinzer. So, on some level, I can appreciate the joshing and the joking and the jabbing. But it is not my wheelhouse. So I stick to my lane (is that a mixed metaphor?)./
I suppose I aspire to be your friend, GNR. Wait. Let me correct that. I would like to be like the friend you mentioned. I assume we are anonymous friends on BBG! already. And, though I appreciate some sports (esp. boxing), I figured I would track back to the post proper and mention a book that has been banned and has relevance to humanity's history and, sadly, our present and future endeavors.
At least I think I got the Xs and Os comment correct. So there's that!
