Mike Tramp, 'The Road To Valhalla' -- New Music

From Songs of White Lion: Vol. II, Mike Tramp brings us a reimagined "The Road To Valhalla." The song originally appeared on the 1985 release Fight to Survive. In mythology, Valhalla is like a warrior's heaven. The new release is available via Frontiers.

Let's Talk About The Latest Revamped Mike Tramp - White Lion Single

Mike Tramp has released a "new" single called "Lonely Nights." It's from the upcoming album Songs of White Lion, Vol II. The song was originally from the 1987 White Lion album Pride, hence the scare quotes around the world new.

Songs of White Lion, Vol II is due August 23 via Frontiers.

The new album is Tramp's rework of classic White Lion tunes. Tramp said he is doing this rework of classic songs because he better understands how he wants to vocalize them now at this point in his life. A visualizer clip of "Lonely Nights" is below and I have to admit, I like it.

You Can Hire Mike Tramp's White Lion For House Parties Now

It has always been possible to hire basically any artist for a private gig (yes, even Taylor Swift) because money talks. Rarely are private shows or house party opportunities advertised so openly, but here we are.

You can hire Mike Tramp's White Lion for your next private party or special event. There are some specific cities available - see them below. If someone does a Cincinnati event, I expect an invite!

'Songs Of White Lion' -- Album Out Now

Mike Tramp has a new album called Songs of White Lion via Frontiers. The album came out April 14.

I was surprised to see a review of the new album by the Associated Press. Unfortunately, the AP reviewer doesn't seem too impressed with the work.

Reviewer Wayne Parry writes:

"That's the problem with this album, in which Mike Tramp, the former singer of White Lion, re-records some of the hair metal heroes' greatest hits. On the one hand, this is some of the finest music of the genre, and it's great to have these songs back in circulation. On the other hand, Tramp is now 62, and the voice that powered hits like 'Tell Me,' 'Wait,' 'Little Fighter' and 'When The Children Cry' is just not there anymore.

To his credit, Tramp doesn't reach for what's not available. But singing these high-energy hits an octave lower robs them of a good deal of their energy and immediacy."

To be fair, Parry is right that the songs were not written for a lower octave. They were high and hard to perform for a reason: to show off Tramp's abilities and sell records.

I haven't had time to go through the whole album myself to determine if the review is fair or not. The review from Classic Rock / Louder Sound is more favorable, which definitely makes me want to give the record a spin.

Another Tour To Track: Mike Tramp

Mike Tramp was originally scheduled to tour in 2020 and that was obviously canceled due to the pandemic. Now, he has rescheduled his "Songs of White Lion" trek. Also interesting is that guitarist Alex Grossi (Quiet Riot) is Mike's booking agent.

Seems like the tour is coming to America at the end of May. More info when it becomes available.

Vito Bratta News? Apparently!

So Guitar World has an all-new issue dedicated to the 80s! According to the magazine's website, one hunk of the special edition features former White Lion guitar master Vito Bratta:

Vito Bratta: The reclusive Eighties virtuoso returns to tell his story. The former White Lion guitarist talks soloing, gear and what he’s up to now.

This is cool - but Ultimate Classic Rock says the interview is from 2019. How can that be? Why would the magazine sit on the content for nearly three years? Perhaps the interview was for a book that is in production or got scrapped. Nevertheless, I'm stunned it has taken this long to get the feature out there. Also, a Vito Bratta return to the stage would be epic - but I am not holding my breath.
